Medicine is a vital field that requires continuous advancement to save lives. I share this review not to discredit, but to inform, protect, and drive change—so that patients and families can make informed decisions, and physicians uphold their responsibility with accountability, integrity, and compassion. This is a call to prioritize patient well-being and individualized care over standardized treatment plans, pharmaceutical incentives, and student training. Dr. Ali Yousaf initially provided attentive care for my loved one, a patient with ANCA vasculitis. However, his engagement declined during critical moments, and his lack of judgment and inaction in urgent situations contributed to her rapid decline. 1) Strong Start, but Critical Lack of Judgment While initially thorough, Dr. Yousaf failed to act appropriately when my… loved one began coughing blood and shared photos of bloody sputum. He dismissed it as non-urgent, advising a delayed outpatient chest X-ray rather than recommending immediate emergency care. Granted, patients shouldn't rely solely on expert advice when evaluating ER needs. Yet when Dr. Yousaf deemed the issue non-life-threatening, we trusted his judgment—this was a mistake. Scheduling imaging and securing insurance delayed care; the earliest appointment was over a week away. For 36 hours, we contacted his office seeking expedited attention, but were never advised to go to the ER until she experienced difficulty breathing. 2) Lack of Coordination and Neglect Dr. Yousaf failed to collaborate effectively with the care team, overlooking risks related to her age, lung disease, and complex treatments. This lack of coordination and urgency deprived her of the care she needed. During her hospital stay, though Dr. Yousaf remained the primary physician most familiar with her case, he chose to provide guidance remotely instead of reviewing her in person—despite multiple requests. This approach during critical decisions led to lapses in oversight and continuity. 3) Inappropriate and Aggressive Treatments Despite a positive history with a prior immunotherapy that had worked well, the ICU team—guided and approved by Dr. Yousaf and carried out by members of the attending team—insisted on switching to a stronger sitoxan treatment without proper justification. When I raised concerns about its risks, including breathing complications, which were in the labels, we were told the potential benefits outweighed the concerns we raised. In the step-down unit, the rheumatology team insisted on administering a second round of the same treatment, despite our concerns and the negative effects of the first. The second treatment caused serious breathing complications and a sharp drop in oxygen levels—requiring an emergency return to the ICU. The physicians who approved this treatment path were absent during the administration and did not respond to symptoms reported by the patient and family. Nurses rotate across shifts, so there was no continuity or follow-up on the complications. Suggestions for Improvement a) Respond promptly to emergencies and provide clear guidance to seek emergency care rather than dismissing symptoms as minor flare-ups. b) Collaborate more effectively with specialists to ensure a holistic, patient-centered approach. c) Tailor care plans to account for the patient’s age, underlying conditions, and overall health. d) Prioritize proven treatments and physician oversight. To change course from an effective therapy, there must be strong, evidence-based reasoning. High-risk alternatives require caution and physician direct monitoring to protect vulnerable patients from preventable harm. I'm a 30-something woman who had swelling in joints fairly early on in her like (late 20s). I didn't know what was going on with my body, and no other doctor seemed to know either. Dr. Yousaf Ali not only was able to diagnosis what I had – which I still can't pronounce – but was able to put me on the track necessary to get the medication needed so that I could finally walk (and run!) again. I moved out west recently, and he managed to find another great rheumatologist out here as well for me to see. I wouldn't be in the shape I am now without Dr. Ali and I am forever grateful for his guidance, his expertise, and his wisdom during such a confusing and painful time in my life. You are quite the fortunate person if you are able to see this amazing doctor and human being.

Dr. Yousaf Ali not only was able to diagnosis what I had – which I still can't pronounce – but was able to put me on the track necessary to get the medication needed so that I could finally walk (and run!) again. He had been my rheumatologist for 9ish years until recently when I had to relocate to the west coast. Even then, he managed to find another great rheumatologist out here as well for me to see. I wouldn't be in the shape I am now without Dr. Ali and I am forever grateful for his guidance, his expertise, and his wisdom during such a confusing and painful time in my life. You are quite the fortunate person if you are able to see this amazing doctor and human being.

Dr. Ali listened to understand my symptoms, saw connections, and worked diligently to land of the correct diagnosis. He was always there to answer questions and helped me understand just exactly how my disease worked. He saw me through my denials and inevitable flares, and was always there to kindly steer me towards the right treatment plan. He taught me that I didn’t have to be a victim to my disease. Dr. Ali gave me my life back. If I hadn’t moved away from New York, he would still be my doctor.

He listened to my symptoms, saw the patterns, and worked with me to see the right specialists before landing on the correct diagnosis. He worked with me for 7 years at every step along the way of my disease and kindly pushing me towards the right treatments. He saw me through my denial and flares. He was always kind and understanding. He taught me that I didn't have to be a victim of my disease. Dr. Ali gave me my life back. If I hadn't left New York, I would still be his patient today.

This is, hands down, the worst medical appointment I have had in my life. I can't understand how a rheumatologist has no understanding of autoimmune conditions. He completely gaslighted me, as though my symptoms were not real. Since my appointment, I have seen other doctors and received a diagnosis of a serious issue-- one I probably could have received sooner had he swallowed his pride to admit what he didn't know rather than to question my understanding or even the veracity of my symptoms. I would give zero stars if I could.

My wife had an appointment with Dr. Ali today; I was there as well. I can say, without hesitation, Dr. Ali was knowledgeable, kind, caring and absolutely thorough in his examination. I actually said to my wife, “Dr. Ali is everything every doctor should be.” We give Dr. Ali our highest recommendation.

Dr. Ali is one of the best most knowledgeable, great diagnostician, kind caring with a sense of humor. He is everything you want a Dr. to be and more.
