Dr. Yvonne Wei Lui, MD

I would start by saying that I am not someone who has ever reviewed a Doctor on one of these sites before. However my experience with Dr. Liu and how she treated and ignored me compelled me to share my experience and opinions as they are symptomatic of too many Doctors today. After months of contemplation I have decided to share my story and warning concerning Dr. Liu. Dr. Liu is a stereotypical "Doctor knows best" provider. She has no time or interest to listen to her patients, even if they have complicated medical histories where their input may be valuable. I am not ignorant enough to think I am a physician or that I have an MDs wealth of medical knowledge. However, I have been dealing with the same chronic condition for nearly 25 years now- since my early 20s- so I have gained a certain amount of experience relevant at least to my personal situation. One thing I have learned after too many erroneous scans (that required repeated scanning) is to insure that the scan you get is… correct and is performed exactly as requested by the ordering physician, as ultimately s/he is the one who best knows why the scan is being ordered and what is being looked for. In my situation with Dr. Liu, she made incorrect changes to the scan my specialist had ordered. When I found out what had happened I immediately tried to get in contact with her to recorrect the scan order. I explained to the front office the mistake she had made and asked to speak with her to remedy the error. Dr. Liu had no interest in communicating with me, even after I asked to speak with her repeatedly- requests I heard relayed to her over the phone, as I tried over and over to communicate the need to change the scan back to what MY SPECIALIST ORDERED FOR ME. She never spoke to me or listened to any of my explanations-directly or from the desk staff (even though I would later find out she was nearby all along, just down the hall in a suite) Instead it was relayed to me in no uncertain terms that she was correct in her scan order, the scan order of my specialist was incorrect and furthermore impossible to perform, and her scan was the only scan I would be receiving from her facility. She was forceful, unrelenting, and I made the mistake of giving in to her. As soon as I presented the scan ordered by Dr. Liu to my specialist he told me it was completely worthless for the reasons I feared, provided no medical value and I would need a new scan ASAP (NOT AT NYU RADIOLOGY I CAN ASSURE YOU) Needless to say my specialist was unimpressed by Dr. Liu and commented on the seeming rise of Doctors today TOO IGNORANT TO APPRECIATE THEIR INCOMPETENCE. In the big picture I did not lose anything invaluable despite the irritation of my situation. I lost a personal day spending hours of frustration in the Radiology Department, along with the time spent in my slow-motion commute to NYU. I also now owe hundreds of dollars to NYU for a worthless scan their incompetent doctor pushed me into, while Dr. Liu of course is fully compensated for her read of this useless scan. However my concerns are for the patients of the future in emergency situations. If they have the misfortune of being assigned to be patients of Dr. Liu what will happen to them. Far worse can come from ordering the wrong scan or making an inaccurate read, especially when it involves a Doctor with her attitudes towards others. I dread for the potential outcome if she approaches future cases with the same disdain and contempt for patients and other doctors that I experienced.
