Dr. Zachary N Stowe, MD

I had a horrible postpartum mood disorder. Dr. Stowe got me though it. He knew exactly which medications to put me on. Saved my life really.

I was seeing Dr. Stowe following the death of both of my parents and the beginning of the pandemic. In which during that time, he was empathetic. Him and I kept going through and trialed several different medications for my anxiety and severe depression and the majority of them gave me horrible side affects such as Serotonin Syndrome , or severe headaches or severe drowsiness in which I cannot have due to caring for my highly special needs child. He knew this and was well aware of everything. One day he lead me to believe he was going to trial me on a completely different medication, one like I have never tried before and it was a completely different avenue than previous meds I have taken. He informed me it was like ADHD medications that would help me “focus” more. I thought that was great! He also reassured me that the new medication would not have any serotonin in it as due to my history of Serotonin Syndrome. I went to the pharmacy to pick up the new meds and the pharmacist,… luckily knows me and my history and alerted me to all the side affects and it was indeed NOT ADHD meds and they wouldn’t not help me focus. I feel as though Dr. Stowe wanted to “sneak” one by me and was not very truthful with me. I tried to find a different doc to replace Dr. Stowe and it’s come to my surprise that in order for me to replace or find a different doctor, I have to go in front of Dr. Stowe himself for him to refer me out. So hopefully you never have any differences with him because if so you will turn out like me that even being in front of the man creates me so much stress and anxiety that my innerbeing is just letting it go in which is bad because then I’m not getting the help I need which is really bad as I suffer greatly from anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts and I can’t get the meds I need because a physician and a company (UW) want to control that. And I’m not one to bounce around from doctor to doctor, this is just his offices new policy. I would not recommend him or anyone in that office as it is an office policy.

I love Dr. Stowe. I do not understand the negative comments. I do agree with one commenter who said he is no-nonsense- that is true. Like her, that is what I like about him. Also, he knows what he's doing. He can come off as brusquely at times-sure- but he cares about his patients. He doesn't just try to treat my disorders, but my person as a whole, based on my lifestyle, comorbidities, preferences etc. I have never been with a mental health expert that has been so dedicated to my mental health. He is even more dedicated than I am about my wellbeing. I would never dream of seeing anyone else. I owe a lot to this doctor.

Do not see this man. He is arrogant, condescend Zachary Stowe Professor of Psychiatry at Emory received 250k dollars in 2007 to promote the use of Paxil to breast feeding women. He never disclosed it. He is condescending, rude and objectionable and has a shocking bedside manner. He should be struck off. Find somebody else.

I left his office in tears after my first and only visit. I was initially excited as I was able to get an appt. with Dr. Stowe with-in a few days as opposed to several weeks-months of waiting to see other doctors. However, that was the only positive thing about the entire experience. He was condescending, rude, very unprofessional and clearly had his own agenda that he was aggressively pushing. He barely asked me about my 5 years of previous medication history, except to belittle my previous doctor's decisions. He didn't listen to me and whole visit was incredibly uncomfortable and stressful. Please stay away.

Dr. Stowe was able to get me in as a patient when I was in a very dark place due to a terminated pregnancy. He has helped me and been supportive during my current pregnancy and always takes my concerns seriously. He is the first psychiatrist I have felt comfortable with. He treats me as an individual and not a diagnoses. He listens and his experience and extensive research with pre-pregnant, pregnant, and post pregnant women makes him an excellent resource. He noticed some changes in my demeanor between one appointment and the next and didn't just increase my dosage to a medicine due to where I was in my pregnancy but actually how I felt. He can be a little brusk but that is what I like about him. He is no nonsense. If you need someone to lie to you and not lay it out, see someone else. If you want the truth and real help, he is the doctor for you.

This MD was unprofessional in his comments about my current and previous treatment providers. He refused to consider or continue the treatment I had been on for over 15 years, despite previous medication changes ending in failure. He instead wanted to put me on a medication that would help me "lose weight". Found a different provider that included me in the decision making process.

He was extremely belittling from appointment one. I received a buligerant and incorrect diagnosis, terrible bedside manner, and wasted time. The symptoms from his prescription cost me four days off from work. The very next appointment he didn’t believe the symptoms I was having and tried to tell me to take MORE of the medicine that was causing me these terrible symptoms. He took me off a medicine that worked for no reason, refused to pu me back on it, and then argued with me that my real life symptoms were impossible. Unbelievable that anyone who has worked this long in psychiatry could pretend symptoms don’t exist that are clearly on the warning label. Less than 10 minutes later I was being told we were “done here” in an unprofessional manner and received a bill for $400 for an incompetent visit. He should not be a doctor. He is a joke.

Dr. Stowe saved my life with my first child. She is now 17. I had never heard of pre-partum depression and didn't know what to do. He explained the whole thing and got me through.

He is the only reason I am actually here along with my 2 children and have a healthy son (15) and daughter (8). Anyone who would give him a bad review has clearly no knowledge of his expertise and the thousands of women he has helped in Atlanta and elsewhere.
