Dr. Weidner is a board certified fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon with a subspeciality focus in hip and knee joint replacements. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive and muscle sparing joint replacement surgery. One of his focuses is using the direct anterior approach for hip replacement. This procedure allows for a quicker recovery with less pain and lower risk of dislocation compared to more traditional methods of hip replacement. It also allows for x-ray confirmation of implant positioning prior to leaving the operating room. He also specializes in robotic-assisted partial and total knee replacements (MAKOplasty®) which can allow for more precise component implantation and early return to function. Mako total knee replacement surgery is a new breakthrough technology only recently available that has a chance to significantly improve outcomes and lessen pain for patients undergoing knee replacement surgery. Dr. Weidner is also utilizing the subvastus …quadriceps-sparing approach for total knee replacement. This surgical technique is less invasive than traditional methods of knee replacement and does not involve cutting the quadriceps tendon. Subvastus quadriceps-sparing knee replacement allows for less pain and a quicker, easier recovery compared to normal knee replacement surgery.

I am a 77-year-old male who suffered through about two years of osteoarthritis in the right knee. Cortisone and Gel One injections did not solve my problem. After consulting with Dr. Weidner, my wife and I decided that a total knee replacement would be my be choice for a full recovery. Now it is three months past the surgery, and I am totally happy with my knee replacement. Dr. Weidner, along with the entire staff at Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics and its physical therapy department, were totally professional and anxious to work with me and answered any and all questions that arose. If you are considering a partial or total knee replacement, you should consult with the Centers before you make a final decision.
