Dr. Zeeshan Ali, MD

Dr Ali is a very nice man.

I am writing to formally express my deep concern and disappointment regarding the care my husband received under Dr. Zeeshan Ali and his team at St. Francis Cancer Center, owned by Mercy Health. From the beginning, we felt unsupported, dismissed, and neglected. Dr. Ali only met with us twice and showed little interest in explaining my husband’s Cancer in depth or answering our questions, we felt that since my husbands cancer is so rare and is not curable that Dr. Ali had dismissed helping us. His PA, Melissa, handled our second cycle treatment visit, we had explained to the Nurse Navigator Jewel that we has pages of questions, and would like to speak with the Doctor. Jewel assured us that the PA Melissa could answer our questions. The first five questions that we ask Melissa she said that she did not know the answer that those were a "Dr. Ali questions". We let her know that we had requested to speak with the Doctor as we had very important questions that we needed answers. We ask… if Dr. Ali could come see us over the next three days that we would be there for treatment. Each day we ask for Dr. Ali and he never came by to see us, we were consistently unable to address our concerns. The other PA, Sarah Loudermilk, was assigned to us at our third cycle of treatment, we again ask to see Dr. Ali and was told he was out of town. My husband had reached out many times before this visit with concerns of his WBC and Neutrophil levels. Finally after two calls they ordered blood work, my husbands WBC was 1.2 and his Neutrophil level was .34 again we called with concern that he should get an injection of CSF to help get his blood levels up before treatment. Sarah demonstrated a complete lack of compassion or understanding, she told us to go home that treatment will be delayed a week, I ask her what happens that in a week if his levels are not up, she said well he will have to wait another week. I ask her what help she could provide such as an injection and she said no that we just go home and wait. I had reached out to several other Oncologist groups and our support group, which has 1500 members of the same rare cancer that my husband has and each time we were told that the CSF was standard procedure of care. A critical concern with the management of my husband’s low white blood cell count and neutrophils. These are essential for determining whether chemotherapy can proceed safely. Despite asking for a standard CSF injection, which is routine post-treatment, no action was taken. Delaying chemotherapy even a week for a palliative patient with aggressive cancer is a serious failure in care. Additionally, the Nurse Coordinator, Jewel, failed to support us in any meaningful way. She took over a week to return a message and offered only excuses upon calling back. No information was provided about support programs or services—we had to do our own research to find what should have been made readily available. I had a 45 minute conversation with Jacqueline Odom, Clinical Manager for the Cancer center and explained to her of our concerns. She told us that she would hold meetings and get back with us with answers why we were being treated so poorly and dismissive by the staff. Needless to say we never heard back from her. I am extremely disappointed by the lack of professionalism, responsiveness, and empathy shown by Dr. Ali’s team. This experience has caused unnecessary stress during one of the most challenging times in our lives. I sincerely hope this feedback prompts an internal review of the care processes and communication protocols within this department. No patient or family should have to go through what we did.

Dr Alli is awesome and so is his girl that works with him and the ladies at the front desk. Great team
