Dr. Zena Ione Monji, MD

I have never experienced a doctor like this before and this isn’t my first pregnancy. I was very excited for my first ultrasound this pregnancy and she seemed like she didn’t want to be there and was very rough. She didn’t explain what she was doing, very rough and left me feeling sore down there. I do not recommend her at all.

She shouldn’t be a doctor and if you go to Malama I ke ola , do notttttt let her be your OBGYN. She’s insensitive and told me I shouldn’t have a baby since I’m high risk , I told her that the medicine makes me nauseous and she just stared at me, told me it was my fault and pretty much tried to blame that I don’t take it at the right times WHEN I DO. Icing on the cake , she didn’t even have the medicine I was taking on file from the last visit I saw her WHEN SHE PRESCRIBED THEM TO ME. Embarrassing employee.

Believe the bad reviews and don't waste your time like I did. You do not want to leave each appointment with this doctor with more questions than you started with. And it's absolutely irresponsible for a Doctor to disrespect their patients or talk to them in a condescending tone instead of respectfully informing them. After multiple appointments with Zena Monji, I refuse to be seen by her again. Don't waste your time.

I saw Dr Monji on Maui today for an IUD removal and replacement. This is a procedure that is known to be incredibly painful, physically and emotionally. Having had an awful first experience I knew I wanted pain management and to discuss options. The whole appointment was rushed and I felt completely unheard. She told me “it’s just a pinch” and “just like menstrual cramps” etc. which if you search the procedure, just check out what a tenaculum does. There are so many physicians advocating for better gynecological pain management and Dr Monji is not one of them. I was offered ibuprofen, and worst of all, when I was expressing how anxious I was feeling she just stone cold stared at me while continuing the exam. Lastly, afterwards while I was feeling nauseous and dizzy, she did not offer any bedside comfort. She simply said “this is normal” and then walked out leaving the nurse to finish up. So terrible. I will not be back to her.

Rude doctor, terrible experience and told me I was lucky she was an anesthesiologist, so I could have some pain relief during childbirth. Her nurse dropped the ball and didn’t do her job in time, which made the patient suffer. Nurses and doctors should be held to a higher standard. That’s the last time she saw my vagina.

Rude, not considerate... Makes ppl cry! Not gentle not thoughtful not a good doctor!!!!!!! What a P.O.S.!!!

This doctor does not belong on Maui. Maybe she doesn't deserve to be an obgyn at all. I hate to say it, but I believe she is racist. I am a local Hawaiian/filipino and this doctor told me "you need to stop having kids. You need to get your tubes tied." I am pregnant with my fifth child. How many children I choose to have is non of her business and I did not ask for her opinion. I will be changing doctors. Maui mommies watch out. I went home crying.

A biopsy isn't very pleasant and is also quite painful. Having a doctor that is Insensitive and self absorbed doesn't make this procedure go any smoother, aggressively doing the procedure while you're climbing out our stirrups onto the table crying and begging her to please stop. Her comment and response to me, You are only making this harder on yourself! Really... No common human kindness and comforting words, like maybe talk you through it like others do. I felt that she was rude and talked down to me when being asked questions about my medical history. I was curious if even one else had experienced this type of treatment, so I looked her up online. Sure enough there it is. Yes, I am not alone in having experiencing this traumatizing horrific, belittling type of unprofessional treatment by this traveling doctor. Today I decided to speak up and let others know about my recent experience.

The worst doctor I've have ever encountered in my whole life. No other doctor has ever mistreated me as horribly as she did. She was judgemental, rude and UNPROFESSIONAL not to mention mistreated me during our visit at Oregon Medical Group. I was scared and misguided. Thank heavens she is no longer practicing at OMG.

Dr. Monji is the best M.D. I have ever worked with! I was recommended to her in 2016 and she was the first medical professional to treat me with respect after telling her why I wanted to receive a hysterectomy, and several months later, performed the surgery. She was proactive in my care and has been a wonderful M.D. to have! Thanks to her, I had the hysterectomy and have felt incredible since the surgery, and still see her for my annual sexual health care appointments.
