Husband went for a procedure by Dr. Zhang. Saw Dr. in holding room by him sticking his head in and I said we have something to talk to you about. He looked at us and I'll come back. He never came back. Never spoke to us after the procedure. Week has gone by and never heard from office. Called office to find out information and never received a call back. Never going back to that office again. Very very disatisfied.

If you are looking for a Colorectal Surgeon/General Surgery, I would highly recommend Dr. John Zhang. After much frustration , many doctors visits, countless testing and many different medications , I was referred to Dr. Zhang. He took time , listened carefully and was sympathetic to my concerns. He ordered more tests which reveled my diagnosis and explained options and treatment plan which, at my discretion , includes surgery. More concerned about the Dr Zhang charging for a procedure that was incomplete and painful. I agree there was penetration but the anoscopy was a 5 second, incomplete, painful experience. No examination therefore there should not be a $250 charge. Why would I proceed with a colonoscopy after this experience?

It was really magic operation from Dr. Zhang. I was referred by my friend and drove 1.5 hour to make my Colonoscopy exam trip in Waterbury Hospital because of Dr. Zhang who has excellent skills and profession as well as how he cares about the patient. His team was so warm and treat me like VIP with pleasant experience. After the surgery, it was so surprised to me, I did not feel any uncomfortable in my body, I felt like I did not had any anesthesia and did not have surgery at all ! No pain at all! What a magic ! I started my work in less than 2 hours! Bravo to Dr. Zhang! He is a superior doctor and highly recommended him and love share my story to everyone here.

Dr. Zhang performed a sigmoid resection on my husband. During the surgery, Dr. Zhang cut a section of my husband’s ureter. The ureter is the tube that carries urine from the kidney down to the bladder and is part of the urinary track. Dr. Zhang did not catch this error while my husband was on the operating table. Over the following days of his hospitalization, my husband and I complained to Dr. Zhang about many unexpected conditions my husband was experiencing. One issue was the intense pain on his left side. Dr. Zhang said it was from the surgery even though it was not close to the surgical incision and the incision no longer bothered him like the intense pain radiating around my husband from his left side. (After my husband was readmitted to the hospital, it was determined the pain was from the cut left ureter). Another issue he was experiencing was an incredibly bloated abdomen. Dr. Zhang said it was gas and a tube was inserted into his stomach. The tube was ineffective and his… abdomen remained severely swollen and Dr. Zhang still said he had gas. This led to my husband having difficulty breathing and even walking. As his days in the hospital passed, he was becoming weaker instead of stronger. Both he and I kept complaining about his deteriorating condition but Dr. Zhang insisted this was normal and planned to discharge him without further testing. Seven days later he was readmitted to the hospital. It took two more days before the severed ureter was discovered. The bloating was urine that had been filling up his abdomen instead of draining into his bladder. Not only was he filled with urine, but fecal matter as well because the colon surgery was leaking. My husband was hospitalized many times over the following months. The urine and fecal matter in his abdomen created pockets of infection that led him to several bouts of sepsis and even septic shock. It was months before the infection was under control and he was strong enough to have his urinary track rebuilt.

Dr. Zhang did s endoscopy on me that went very wrong...my esophagus was knicked.. I woke from that procedure with tubes in my nose into my stomach to help control the bleeding...my husband was called to the room no one including Dr Zhang would explain to him what had happpened... there is not enough space to explain how disappointed we are in the compassion and caring from Dr Zhang..as a matter of fact we never saw him again...we had many other wonderful doctors and nurses caring for me... We just can’t believe that he would not have offered some kind of explanation...all of the other doctors involved were absolutely wonderful.. Another fact when I was released from ICU I had a follow up appointment with Dr Zhang and Dr Rockoff both doctors treated what had happened to me very nonchalantly..basically saying this happens let’s move on., However needless to say I have left both doctors and have a wonderful gastroenterologist...Dr Hass who was full of compassion at what I had been… through....it has been a long road and still continues today...

Dr. Zhang performed surgery on me in Feb. 2018. My large intestine had ruptured. It was beyond horrific! I was literally one day to death and had become septic. I truly believe that God provided Dr. Zhang to operate on me and save my life. I know that God worked through Dr. Zhang’s skilled hands. Dr. Zhang and his team were so caring and wonderful to me. Dr. Zhang came every day to check on me and never rushed out of the room. His team worked with me round the clock. I had both a physical and emotional recovery, as I lost a good portion of my colon and was getting used to a colostomy bag. Dr. Zhang and his team were always so encouraging and positive. They gave me such hope for a healthy future. I am now praying for the courage to face the reconnection surgery with Dr. Zhang. He is the only surgeon who I would want for my next surgery. I live in PA and will travel 400 miles to have Dr. Zhang be my surgeon. Dr. Zhang and his team will always be in my heart as angels sent… from Heaven to save my life. Dr. Zhang will take care of you in the same compassionate and skilled manner.

Dr. Zhang explained everything to me from a surgical perspective. He resected my colon robotically, made sure that all was contained, made sure that all samples were properly accounted for and that pathology was done promptly. Not only did he perform the surgery in an outstanding manner, he also has a nice bedside manner. He performed the reversal of my ileostomy and I am now doing great, cancer free!

Dr. Zhang came highly recommended and lived up to our expectations. He explained the procedure before and using graphics after the actual surgery. He answered all our questions.
