Dr Zongyang Sun, Division of Orthodontics at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Dentistry, did a poor job on my Invisalign and braces, lacking in proper application as noted later by his colleagues. He initially quoted (6 to 8) months of treatment would be required to vertically rotate (4) teeth. Otherwise, my teeth were beautifully straight, with an excellent bite and alignment. Dr Zongyang Sun made excuses for his mishaps, some very severe, from the adjustments he made on my orthodontics and ended up taking (2) years. Dr Zongyang Sun failed at aligning my teeth with Invisalign and ended up applying braces in an attempt to correct the mess that he created. My teeth were now far worse than prior to starting orthodontic treatment with him. Dr Zongyang Sun mishaps caused this extended time… because with each incorrect adjustment (20 in total out of 24 adjustments) he would attempt to make a correction which failed; thus, extending my treatment time. At one point, Dr Zongyang Sun… actually blamed me for my orthodontics not turning out well and prematurely stated my orthodontics were completed. His quiet and soft demeaner would often become arrogant and angry given the mess he created. In arrogance, he would remind me of his title at OSU and how he knew what he was doing ? VISITS : Dr Zongyang Sun was often corrected by his assistants during nearly every adjustment he performed on me. Of the (24) visits over a (2) year period; literally (20) of his adjustments yielded poor outcomes (highly different from what he said would happen). He was not detail oriented and was sloppy in his work. Following months of attempts to properly adjust my teeth, Dr Zongyang Sun then prematurely claimed that my orthodontics treatment was completed. 2ND OPINIONS : I clearly knew this could not possibly be the case and decided to get a ‘2nd opinion’ from a handful of orthodontics, oral surgeons, and dentists in the Columbus area who all stated the following issues were now present with my teeth: - Bite was out of alignment - Open Bite in a few areas - Teeth were improperly hitting causing stress on the teeth - Teeth were slanted - Teeth were unevenly vertically aligned - Upper and lower teeth were not properly aligned My dentist was highly concerned as he knew my dental anatomy prior to my orthodontic treatment. Two of the orthodontists provided X-Rays noting these outstanding items, which I then shared with Dr Zongyang Sun. Dr Zongyang Sun was called out by his colleagues and now had to correct these noted issues that he created. MY OUTCOME : When removing my braces, Dr Zongyang Sun removed much of my enamel leaving the surface of my teeth with ridges from the misuse of the tool he used during the removal process; my once thick enamel was now 'very thin' and exposed my dentin. The retainers he provided were done incorrectly, further moving my teeth in the wrong direction, moving (1) tooth up and out of alignment (yes, teeth may adjust slightly following treatment; however, these changes all occurred within the 3-days of wearing the upper and lower retainers). Dr Zongyang Sun never corrected these retainers. LESSON LEARNED : I chose Dr Zongyang Sun, Division of Orthodontics at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Dentistry, for my orthodontic treatment due to his credentials and high regard at OSU. What I have found to be true… the letters behind someone’s name does not always equate to ABILITY. Excellent orthodontic outcomes require knowledge, but more importantly, ability. SUMMARY : I found Dr Zongyang Sun as incompetent as an orthodontist as he had to be corrected multiple times by his assistants and colleagues in his field. I found him to lack ability and not prove as a safe choice for my orthodontic treatment. I recommend spending a little more with a highly reputable orthodontist to yield beautiful results and more importantly, provide excellent treatment yielding excellent results while protecting your gums, bite, teeth, and en

Following treatment, I was canceled as a patient. Apparently, this was Dr Zongyang Sun’s way of ‘not having to face his absolute disaster in my orthodontic treatment’. I found Dr Zongyang Sun as incompetent and not a safe choice for orthodontic treatment. I recommend spending a little more with a highly reputable orthodontist to yield beautiful results and more importantly, provide proper treatment while protecting your teeth, gums, and enamel.
