What is HCAHPS?

The HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) Survey, is a standardized survey instrument and data collection methodology that has been in use since 2006 to measure patients' perspectives of hospital care. The HCAHPS survey is administered to a random sample of adult patients across medical conditions between 48 hours and 6 weeks after discharge; the survey isn't restricted to Medicare beneficiaries. You can learn more here.

*CMS has created the HCAHPS Star Ratings in order to enable consumers to more quickly and easily assess the patient experience of care information that is provided on the Hospital Compare Web site. Star ratings also allow consumers to more easily compare hospitals.

** HCAHPS data is broken down into the following buckets; definitely recommend, probably recommend, probably not recommend, definitely not recommend.

Mr Thomas

I took my wife to Hermann hospital on 10/02/2019. We arrived about 2: 30. At 7: o clock we were told that it would take about another 4 hours to see the doctor. We had thirteen dollars for parking. We left there and went to Park Plaza. Soon as we got there she was put in a room to be seen by a doctor. Hermann is getting like Ben Taub. Where it takes about 10 to 12 hours before you see a doctor..

Kind but worthless

My wife and I came here from out of state for heart surgery and after 2 failed attempts and several broken ribs we are being run around about pain meds. The ICU staff is the only redeeming quality.

Lost spinal fluid from spinal tap

My 9 yr old son had a spinal tap done so his CSF could be analyzed to determine a diagnosis. The hospital lost the fluid, so the test, which resulted in extreme pain and a trip to the ER, was done needlessly. My poor child was forced to endure the procedure again. Negligence!

COURTNEY RN @ Memorial Herman woodlands

AVOID COURTNEY ON FLOOR 4! I have never been so disappointed in a nurses treatment in my life. She was extremely disrespectful, was constantly 30 minutes later than her said appointment time. Even had the audacity to tell my wife (whom is a doctorate of physical therapy, much above a nursing degree) that she did not know what she was speaking about. (Even though she has been a TBI specialist at TEIR, one of the top TBI hospitals in the WORLD!) Courtney also was rude to my parents as well as visitors. She even got angry if we had any questions for her, whether it was asking what type of medicine it was, or and astablished timeline. It is sad that some of these people’s last moments on this earth will be spent with her condescending, disgusting, selfish, attitude. I truly pray she is either inducted into customer/patient communication classes so she can learn to be a better nurse, or let go. Moving forward, this will be the last time my family, including my children, my parents, and my grandparents, will visit this hospital due to the appalling service we received from Courtney. I will also be filling out a report with the Texas department of nursing as I do not believe any patient deserves the miss treatment provided by this character.
