My mother's experience in this hospital.

This is a summary of my mother's experience in Baptist Memorial Hospital Desoto in Southaven MS. My mother's name was Mabel E Walker. She passed away on Dec 26, 2015 while in this hospital. When my mother was initially placed in her room alone, she was being tube fed. She couldn't eat, she couldn't drink, and she couldn't throw up. Whenever she received an injection of nausea medication, Phenergan, she was so incoherent that she didn't even know where she was. There was no way that she could press the nurse's call button if she needed help. I was afraid to leave her. I asked her doctor if he would transfer her to the Intensive care unit but he refused. I could tell that my mother's condition was deteriorating rapidly. I then asked 3 different nurses if they knew of an agency that I could call to hire someone to stay with my mother when I couldn't be there. They all said that they did not know of any such agency. On Dec 26, 2015 I received a message from Baptist indicating that my mother wasn't doing well. I returned to the hospital and pushed back the curtain surrounding her bed. Her body had been turned around and her head was facing the foot of the bed. There wasn't a sheet placed over her and she was in a fetal position. I didn't know that she had passed away. I was horrified. I don't know how anyone could be so insensitive and heartless. Hospitals often indicate that they are short staffed while delivering patient care. In my opinion they are understaffed because they make more money that way. I have no idea how hospital management is able to live with this decision. My mother could be alive today if she had received proper and compassionate care from the beginning of her stay at Baptist Desoto. My mother and I were extremely close. Patients are dying unnecessarily because of situations similar to this one. Lives are so much more important than any material considerations. LIVES ARE AT STAKE !!!
