What is HCAHPS?
The HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) Survey, is a standardized survey instrument and data collection methodology that has been in use since 2006 to measure patients' perspectives of hospital care. The HCAHPS survey is administered to a random sample of adult patients across medical conditions between 48 hours and 6 weeks after discharge; the survey isn't restricted to Medicare beneficiaries. You can learn more here.
*CMS has created the HCAHPS Star Ratings in order to enable consumers to more quickly and easily assess the patient experience of care information that is provided on the Hospital Compare Web site. Star ratings also allow consumers to more easily compare hospitals.
** HCAHPS data is broken down into the following buckets; definitely recommend, probably recommend, probably not recommend, definitely not recommend.

Worst hospital I have ever been in!!! I have never been treated as bad as this place. They treat you like a convict/tied up/treated like diarrhea. They sedated me so heavily, after 4 months, I still have repercussions. I am very sensitive to medications. Even try to turn your family/friends against you. At all costs, if you can....avoid this place, please do. The Cardiologists at this place suck. Don't care about you, will not communicate with your primary care physician, pharmacy or therapist. Had allergic reactions to some of the meds, took them two days to call me back, just to put me on some more of their new designer (they are in bed w/the pharmacy company) prima donna drugs. At that point, I fired them and found a Cardiologist that communicates with my PCP/pharmacy/therapist. At this point, I am seriously thinking about suing these idiots. They ruined my life and well being!!!!!
Unfavorable billing practices

I had surgery at this hospital in August of 2018. I was called prior to my surgery and told that my bill would be roughly $218 which I paid via credit card at that time. I received a bill after the surgery for roughly $3,300, showing that my balance due was almost $3,100 after my initial payment. I’ve spent countless hours on the phone, I’ve talked to my surgeon’s office and the patient liason’s office. They are willing to write off 50% and an additional 10% if I pay now. They are blaming the surgeon’s office for incorrect coding. I chose an in network doctor, an in network facility, reviewed my costs and made my decision to go ahead with surgery. If I would have known the high cost ahead of time, I would have made a different decision. The majority of my bill is for a joint implant that costs around $3,600 (according to my surgeon) for which Parker Adventist bilked my insurance company $22,240! The insurance company discounted it 50% and paid the hospital almost $9,000 for the implant. Why am I stuck with a bill that I knew nothing about and that I have no control over? Even if the coding error falls on the surgeon’s office, the hospital has a huge part to play in this because their exorbitant billing practices drive the bottom line of the bill. I will say that I received excellent care while I was there but finances matter. They obviously matter to me as I’ve endured 3 surgeries in 4 months to take advantage of my good insurance and the fact that I’ve met my deductible before the new plan year begins 1/1/19. We’re currently paying over $1,900 a month for insurance since my husband lost his job. Health care costs are astronomical and now you know at least one reason why - hospitals bill their patients so far in excess of costs!!
