Never again

Never again will I send someone I love to this place. The nurses were great. Dr McDonnel was the worse. After a week of me voicing my concerns about my moms declining in heath( I stayed 24/7) Dr. McDonnel was more concerned that my mom couldn’t do rehab, than why she was declining in health and couldn’t breathe. I took her to Christ for a second opinion. They admitted her to icu with pneumonia. How’s does a Dr miss that?

Absolutely awful!!!

herapy staff is great but the care My father got by the aides, nurses and doctors at this place was absolutely HORRIFIC! I will be contacting the Board of Health. His room was filthy, always, with flaked off skin all over the floor from having his feet repeatedly bandaged. My father was stuck in a wheelchair for 7 hours a day. When I mentioned this to an aide, she told me he was lying. It took 3 days for him to get a cushion for his wheelchair seat and he was in a lot of pain from sitting in an unsupported seat. THINGS WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF INCLUDED: 1. Him falling while being assisted by an aide in the bathroom. Gigantic, bandaged arm from the fall. 2. He was transported to B North for a doctor’s appt. We never heard about it or the results of the visit. 3. Never able to get any medical updates from nurses in 2 weeks. I Never once saw or talked to a doctor even though I was there, daily, asking to see one. 3. A procedure that was supposed to happen the first couple of days to aid healing was performed the day before he left. Never an update as to why. He still has massive, I healed wounds. Then, today, he was transferred to a sub acute rehab nursing home where the nurses discovered a 6” diameter bed sore. My dad’s thighs were raw from only being washed every 2-3 days. It took the nurses 30 minutes to clean off the gigantic blobs of compacted cream stuck to his body. The aides, staff and case workers are indifferent and lack skill and any empathy and they make it readily known. Apparently, this place has a reputation and I’m not the only one who has noticed. I’m sorry it was only today that I discovered his physical neglect. I feel horrible that I didn’t know or I would have moved him immediately. My father is mentally fine but he tries not to complain so said nothing about his condition until the new nurses at the new care center started questioning him. The doctors of B North STRONGLY urged we use TriHealth Acute Rehab when he left B North. Obviously, they do not know what goes on down there. Other than at TriHealth Acute Rehab, we have had nothing but excellent care from B North and Tri Health doctors. I am outraged at my father’s treatment and care and will be seeking out people to report this to.

Looks can be deceiving

I originally toured this facility a month prior to my mother having a major spine surgery. My initial impression was that this was a state of the art, perfect facility for someone that needs to rehab with the convenience of having medical staff on board. I was initially very impressed, so much that this facility is over an hour away from my home. For the most part, I was wrong. I will start out by saying that the therapy staff my mother had were great. She had absolutely top notch therapists, who listened and cared for my mother with expertise and empathy. I can also exclude two aides from my overall review because they tended to my mothers needs and were highly professional. unfortunately it just takes a few bad apples to ruin an entire experience. I was often told that Nursing Staff that they were too busy to care for my mother. I specifically asked for her to shower and walk on multiple occasions and was told that staff members were just “too busy.” Staff did not have time or staffing to give her a shower for 5 days following a very major spine surgery that has now resulted in an open wound on her surgical site that will take months to heal. She also has a pressure wound to her heel. Doctors were not thorough with examinations. I often felt as though the doctors were rushed, instead of really looking into her case and examine. I often had to point things out and suggest things to the doctors and nurses and ask for things like xrays, labs, vital signs, medications. I felt as though i had to be her advocate as much as i could, to the point that i stayed in a hotel multiple times. We dealt with some very rude staff members who acted as though THEY were the ones inconvenienced by having to take care of my mother or even just getting a cup of ice for her!! These certain individuals are a disgrace to the healthcare community. I fear for the patients who do not have a voice. There is definitely a disconnect to medical care and therapy at this facility. It is very unfortunate, because it is a beautiful facility and it could be so much more.
