What is HCAHPS?
The HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) Survey, is a standardized survey instrument and data collection methodology that has been in use since 2006 to measure patients' perspectives of hospital care. The HCAHPS survey is administered to a random sample of adult patients across medical conditions between 48 hours and 6 weeks after discharge; the survey isn't restricted to Medicare beneficiaries. You can learn more here.
*CMS has created the HCAHPS Star Ratings in order to enable consumers to more quickly and easily assess the patient experience of care information that is provided on the Hospital Compare Web site. Star ratings also allow consumers to more easily compare hospitals.
** HCAHPS data is broken down into the following buckets; definitely recommend, probably recommend, probably not recommend, definitely not recommend.

During a colonoscopy procedure , they lacerated my spleen. Even though I was in pain, they released then I had to return to ER. It was a horrible experience of denial and poor health care. I know owe the bill of everything they did wrong. I’m writing this to save someone’s life, seriously. I was able to save my own. But another person will not be as fortunate. When I approached their Risk Department, they were rude and told me that anything can happen during a surgery and that I am fully responsible for paying for their horrible errors and mistakes. I would give this organization a zero if I could. Please seek healthcare somewhere else.
Horrible service and billing

Going through fertility the nurses didn’t treat us like they cared and the doctor sounded clueless. After a few months of many scans and tests we got no where. Add on top of it Aurora codes everything the wrong way costing us everything out of pocket even after talking to insurance was going to cover most of the costs and telling us to have Aurora call them Aurora would not. My wife was on meds and when she called the doctor he was not in and the nurses couldn’t tell her when to stop taking meds. Doc would call us back yeah right. After switching to a much better hospital that treats you like a human being and not just looking for our money. That hospital found something major the Aurora missed and showed up in their scans. Month and months later Aurora sends us a bill that was never submitted to insurance. After many phone calls what do you know we got a letter from insurance that they covered the bill and weeks later we got a letter from collectings for the same bill. The worst hospital and will never step foot in that place and fell cared for at our new hospital.
Rude to Customers

It took me a while to get a doctor that could help with my problem. The original doctor did not find my arthritic back disc and it took a reorder on the MRI to get it admitted to me that I had arthritis which was causing my pinched nerve . Then I once had the medical practice threaten to drop me as a patient because I forgot to go to a couple of appointments one year. Another year they sent me a notice that I cannot cancel appointments at short notice when I had the flu that day. They also can cancel your appointment if you are late. That is a big deal if you don't live in Green Bay by the practice you go to. I also had them turn me into a collection agency without contacting me over the phone that they were going to do so for 200 dollars left on my balance. i hadn't scheduled the payments with their billing office, but I was still paying them. It's only because they put you on hold so long I didn't schedule anything with the billing office. I am a busy person and my job doesn't allow for lengthy waits on the phone to pay. i even contacted them online and put a note in with my bill that I can only pay about 20 dollars a month until further notice. I know that billing departments these days are screwed up and don't read notes, but they should have at least called me. I really don't care if it's cheaper them to have a central billing department. Mailed notices are not enough and e-mail is a stupid way to contact patients. If they want patients they had better start caring more about them.

i was seen in nephrology. i was started on a new medication and wondering if the side effects were urgent, should I go to the ER, should I decrease the dose, what should I do since I could not get back into Green Bay (I lived out of town) until the following week. Well, the nurses took a message, did not call me back for 24 hrs/then said my primary care physician would not give me any advice or instruction and would have to schedule appointment. They said to give advice over phone can be risky. Well NOT giving simple instructions over phone to YOUR patients with immediate questions is RISKY. I switched to Prevea. They have 24 hr nurses available. They page the on call physician. They would not let me hang for a week. AND it was NOT appropriate to go to the ER. We spend alot of money on health care and to not answer a basic question over the phone is UNACCEPTABLE. I will NEVER return to Aurora. I heard ALL their departments are like that and they do NOT have nurses on at night. I heard they transfer alot of their patient calls to Prevea at night. Prevea does not even know their patients or have their chart. CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP.. Only want you to make another apptmt for basic info which costs a ton and will not pay nurses to take calls at night...NEVER GO TO AURORA.
