Dr. Steven Farina, DPM

I recently had an appointment with Dr. Farina due to a pain on the side of my foot. First he asked for a note from my primary doctor. He said any time you go somewhere new you should bring a note from your doctor. I've never heard this one before. I had foot pain, I called a foot doctor, and insurance required no referral for me to be there. He diagnosed me with tendonitis and gave me a boot to wear. No instructions as far as when I could go without the boot. Do I need to keep it on all the time? I found the information on line. He also recommended I use Voltaren gel on the area of the pain. Earlier he asked if I had any medical conditions (he said he didn't have my medical records but then found them in the computer.) I told him I have Crohn's disease. Crohn's patients are supposed to avoid NDAID medications as they can cause or increase the severity of flairs. Voltaren is an NSAID. It cause a flair. He made no mention of this despite what I had told him. Had I known upfront I would… not have used it. I got the information I needed online. Dr. Farina gave no recommendations for stretching or exercises for my condition. Stretching and strengthening is common for tendonitis. But it's okay, I found what I wanted online. Maybe he was having an off day, but he seemed distracted a little frustrated. I probably won't be going back.
