Do not use this dermatologist. Evasive, dismissive, rude, and does not even know the law when we tried to get a cost estimate prior to an appointment. Detail: We were trying to schedule a dermatologist visit since we live in Florida, and the dermatologist's office said they cannot give us a cost estimate for any lab work that might need to be performed in the event they find something during the check-up. Even though the results come back from the lab to the DOCTOR and then the doctor calls us with the results (preventing us from asking the lab directly). They said they have NO WAY to provide us a cost estimate for the "reading of the biopsy by the lab", as it all depends on what they find during the initial visit, and the code the doctor provides the lab with to analyze the biopsy sample. Even though they have done this process with Korpath Labs thousands of times. So I quoted THE LAW to them that nowadays patients CAN and are allowed to get a cost estimate upfront before proceeding… (versus being stuck in a process that suddenly costs thousands of dollars without any communication), and especially in this case where they use the lab KorPath and the reading of any results is based on the code that THEY send the lab (like if it was on the nose, or the leg etc.), and that they are essentially the middle man. When I asked them how I am supposed to get an estimate for the process BEFORE getting unknown costs billed to me, they became very rude and dissmissive and said they know of the law but it does not apply to lab cost estimates AND that they have no idea as there are tons of codes they could use. So I asked for the codes and said I would call KorPath directly then. They became even more rude and literally pretended as if they have no clue what the cost is for the services that they request on our behalf from their lab solutions. Dr. Nick got on the phone and was EXTREMELY rude as if we are not allowed to ask these questions. No wonder there is now a law to prevent entitled doctors like this from doing whatever they like. What a GREAT example (NOT) for how to teach their staff on how to treat potential new clients. There was not a single thing that I asked that was not within my rights, and they just did not like the fact that I would not accept the doctor's appointment with an UNKNOWN potential cost incurred by them on my behalf. Very unprofessional. The law states: "“Provider” is defined broadly to include any health care provider who is acting within the scope of the provider’s license or certification under applicable state law. ...The definition of “items and services” for which the good faith estimate MUST BE PROVIDED is also broadly defined to encompass “all encounters, procedures, medical tests, … provided or assessed in connection with the provision of health care.” Unbelievable.
