Lyons Family Medicine

This morning my daughter called to cancel her appointment today as she had food poisoning and was throwing up with diarrhea. When she called Dr. Lyons office, a man at the front desk said that “she would still be charged as she is cancelling on the same day as her appointment”. When she told me this, I saw it extremely insensitive and completely unprofessional so I called to inform them that we will not be paying the charge as she just started throwing up and had to leave her college class because of this situation. When I called I asked for the “practice manager” so the woman transferred me to the front desk where this man answered the phone. I again asked for the practice manager, as I knew I would get no where with this man, as he was the one that was so rude to my daughter. He refused it as he said that the practice manager was the doctor and he was seeing patients. I explained to him that my daughter had what we believe is food poisoning and that she is throwing up and has… diarrhea so that he knew that she obviously could not help it and did she did the right thing by calling to cancel. He then proceeded to tell me that she will still be charged for cancelling on the same day. I told him she has no other choice as she is throwing up and has diarrhea and he proceeded to say “The reason I am still charging her is because it’s ok for her to still come in as she is not contagious because it’s just food poisoning”. Are you kidding me?!?! He then said “ Can I have your phone number so the doctor can call you back because I have nothing to hide”. Very confrontational man and is not someone to be answering the phone and dealing with patients/family members. Awful experience. In all the years I have worked with doctors offices and staff, I have NEVER had such a rude, nasty and UNPROFESSIONAL response from someone…NEVER!
