During an initial visit with a sleep specialist, he performed a diagnostic procedure with a scope that cost $800. My insurance did not cover this procedure, so now I owe this money. At no time was I asked if I wanted to proceed with an $800 procedure. Since this was my first visit to this practice, I assumed it was part of "normal" exams. The $800 charge is in addition to a $550 charge for the exam itself. Perhaps others' insurance would cover this, but mine did not and I wish I was given the opportunity to decide whether or not I wanted what turned out to be an unnecessary diagnostic procedure.
