My son, who has autism, went to this practice because he was referred by his primary care doctor. The practice told him they would take his insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield through Medicaid). Yesterday, I received a bill for $300 from the practice. When I tried to talk to the practice’s receptionist, she became quite belligerent and told me that the account will go to collection if it isn’t settled. My son clearly stated he was referred there by his doctor and that his doctor’s office did send an authorized prescription to this practice. I spoke to my son’s insurance carrier and the representative informed me that the office sent the request for payment with a number for the doctor that put him out of network, even though he has a number which places him in network. She also told me that the doctor’s office may or may not use the in-network number. If so, the insurance carrier cannot pay for my son’s services. It seems clear to me that this practice takes advantage of innocent people.… They tell them they accept their insurance and then use a number that puts them out of network, which in turn forces people to have to pay out of pocket for their treatment. I will speak to my local representative about this practice. I’m quite sure my son is not the only person they have taken advantage of. They should be ashamed of themselves.
