My experience with Dr. Jessica Weinstein was deeply disappointing and, frankly, demeaning. I sought help on 04/28/2026, when I began noticing changes to my vision. I was referred to Dr. Jessica Erin Weinstein. When I voiced my fear of losing my eyesight, she spoke to me as though I were a child and even chastised me for using the word “blind,” reminding me that “some people here are actually blind.” I was terrified about a serious genetic condition yet she treated me as if I were overreacting or wasting her time. It felt as though my concerns were dismissed from the start. She reluctantly ordered additional testing, only to dryly inform me months later that my “self-diagnosis” had, in fact, been correct. I understand that my condition is rare, progressive, and has no cure - that part is not her fault - but the lack of empathy and respect added insult to injury. I want to highlight that when I expressed concern over the OCT she ordered in July 2025, she reiterated that she’s the… doctor, I had no reason for concern, as there is no risk involved. Her negligence and arrogance cost me dearly. Since that test was performed, I have not been able to see at all in low light environments, I cannot drive at night, nor am I able to tolerate lights, it seems as though my eyes have been dilated since that day. The last time I saw her was one year ago today on August 25th, 2025, when she vaguely acknowledged the consequences of this test in the provider notes, but never aloud. I was not offered any kind of apology nor shown remorse on her end nor from the Spokane Eye Clinic. I was informed by the Spokane Eye Clinic a few months later that she had moved back to Canada. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time I’ve been mistreated by a physician who allowed bias or assumptions to guide their behavior. Experiences like this are precisely why so many people in this country go undiagnosed or untreated until it’s too late. I have been diagnosed with three rare conditions - each one initially dismissed or overlooked. I realize I must advocate for myself to survive, but it is becoming increasingly difficult without being accused of being difficult, lying, or attention seeking. It’s deeply troubling when a physician’s lack of empathy overshadows their clinical judgment. Being treated with disdain and condescension when you are at your most vulnerable is one of the most harmful things a medical professional can do. No patient should ever leave a medical appointment feeling humiliated for asking for help. I hope that Dr. Weinstein, and anyone reading this, takes this feedback seriously because every patient deserves to be treated with dignity, listened to, and believed.
