I deeply regret therapy with Vernon Smith. He was overbearing and brought his own value judgements and opinions to session, which made it harder for me to honestly explore myself. He once lectured me angrily about using a word he thought was politically incorrect—this was devastating, since I was very depressed at the time. My experienced psychiatrist called this countertransference, which it is. Follow-up was non-existent; I had to ask 5-6 times each for receipts, which I needed for reimbursement. I sent important emails that went unread. Then, on the verge of a crucial life event, Vernon raised my fee by a large amount, despite the fact that it was income-based. He told me I was strong enough to withstand the increase, an incomprehensible reason. My depression lifted after a doctor diagnosed an autoimmune problem that had caused it. Only then did I see what I'd signed up for. Thank heaven I did. This provider is unprofessional.
