A few things to know before you make an appointment: not all their doctors are MDs, they won't volunteer that information, and once you see a doctor at the practice you're not allowed to see any other. That means that if you're randomly assigned to a non-MD, a doctor who isn't a good fit for you, or both, you can't change to a different doctor and will need to find a whole new practice. For me, the first available appointment was with Dr. Schuyler Cook. During the visit, when I noticed her medical questions were slightly unusual, she informed me that she was an osteopath. I have no objection to osteopathy, but it's not what most people are looking for in an internist, and I should have been given the opportunity to choose what kind of practitioner I'd be seeing. At the same time, I found Dr. Cook's demeanor worryingly unprofessional. I'm sure she's a nice person, but the qualities I enjoy in a friendly hangout aren't necessarily what I expect from the person in charge of my… health care. She was dressed head-to-toe in anime characters and wearing heavy glitter make-up. During the examination she perched on the edge of the counter and swung her feet back and forth like a bored pre-teen who's been dragged to their parent's office for the day. Her whole style of interaction followed the same pattern; her questions, her reactions to me, and her general presentation were all childish, which gave the impression of someone who lacked the interest and experience to fully engage with my medical concerns. This person isn't a college intern, she's a fully independent physician, and the feeling she gave of having stepped directly off TikTok and into the room did not inspire confidence. After that visit I was reluctant to make another appointment, but when I finally tried, as I said, I was told that having seen Dr. Cook I wouldn't be able to see any other doctor there. I'm now searching for a different local practice.
