Dr. Carlos Martinez, M.d., MD

This is the worst medical group we have ever encountered. Doctors Moarefi and Martinez are two of the rudest doctors we have ever met in our lifetime. They do not like you asking questions, they get annoyed and shut you up. They tell you “See how you are?!” When all you are trying to do is get answers. We were given conflicting information in a pre-op consultation by the tech and doctor Moarefi and just wanted to understand all of the options and possible complications before surgery. Dr. Moarefi would not answer our questions and told us to have a different doctor do it. So we scheduled a consult the next day with Dr. Martinez. He came in with a bad attitude (after almost an hour and a half wait), no doubt after talking with Dr. Moarefi, and being fed lies, and continued to actually insult us for trying to tell him the conflicting info his other staff had given, and for the concerns we had in picking the proper procedure. He kept belittling us for having done research on both… the procedure and what Medicare would cover. When he insisted Medicare would not cover the procedure (and we had read that they would) I took out my cell phone to look it up on the Medicare site again. He yelled at me! “What are you doing!? Are you filming me!” “DO NOT TAKE YOUR CELL PHONE OUT AGAIN IN HERE!” He then said he would not perform the surgery as he “didn’t feel he had a good relationship with us.” I wonder why when you do nothing but belittle and argue with your patients? Dr. Martinez is extremely argumentative, and every question we had, he turned it into an argument. He then said to find a new doctor and walked out! We looked at each other in disbelief and said something to each other and he stormed back in, got in my face and said “WHAT DID YOU SAY!??” Dr. Martinez was so irate and had such hate in his eyes that we were actually concerned for our safety. While the majority of their staff are nice, like others have said in their reviews, this place is a “factory.” They overbook, make you wait hours, and treat you like cattle with no concern for your time, your well-being, no time for your questions, and these two doctors are extremely rude. We all pay a lot of money to these doctors, we have the right to expect there to be some sort of common courtesy and respect. Take the time to research and find doctors who are compassionate and will answer your questions. We do not recommend Eye Physicians of Long Beach under any circumstances.

I traveled 300 miles from the California Central Coast to see Dr. Martinez, because he was one of the first to place Panoptic Trifocal intraocular lenses for cataracts in the United States. He did a complete eye exam, referred me to a Retinal Specialist, and then presented me with the results that I would not get the best vision with trifocal lenses because of retinal disease. Instead, he suggested the Crystalens Intraocular lenses. He is such a kind, honest, straight-forward, and trustworthy individual, that I chose to go forward with the Crystalens. I could see extremely well by day 3. Now 9 months later, I can see perfectly from small print near to distance. The results far exceed my expectations. Excellent physician and excellent surgeon.

Very personable and knowledgeable

Dr. Martinez earns 10 stars! However, the wait in his office is often an hour, which is why I only gave 4 stars. Dr. Martinez is the best cataract surgeon in the area and works with you, the patient, on meeting your needs and wants. Can't say enough good things about his qualifications and he always has the most advance equipment and knowledge.

I was told I needed cataract surgery and Dr. Martinez was my second opinion. Dr. Martinez gave me such a thorough eye exam my first visit, and was so patient and kind with my questions, that I chose him to do the procedure. At my six month check up he also discovered a rare form of eye cancer (Ocular Melanoma) and basically saved my eye and my life beginning with his thorough check up and then referring me to a specialists to continue my care. I have recommended Dr. Martinez to friends and family ever since.

I have been going to Dr. Martinez for years. I have never had a problem with him or his staff. Very efficient and courteous. Great and caring Doctor.

I started at this office under Dr. Martinez's predecessor. When Martinez took over they started double-booking. Waits are crazy long. He also mis-diagnosed an infection and caused more problems for me. I've now switched and I'm happy.

I have a rare condition called Pseuedotumor Cerebri. He treated me with such concern and care that I will be forever grateful to him and his staff.
