Dr. George Kariampuzha, MD

My mother had dementia and saw Dr. Kariampuzha after having seen Dr. Richard D. Tyer. Tyer was an old family friend but turned out to be a horrible doctor. Dr. Kariampuzha by contrast was excellent!

I’ve been a patient of Dr. K’s for almost 14 years & I wouldn’t trade him for the world. His dedication to his patient’s, his determination to find out your CORRECT diagnosis and compassion is unmeasurable. His skills and expertise in his field is unmatched and there isn’t another doctor even at the medical school that is smarter than Dr. K. He continues to attend conferences and stays up to date with the latest treatments. He also makes a point to “talk to YOU “, never down to you. The best!!!

Dr K is my Blessing. I have had GBS since 2011 & waking up Paralyzed for over a year & a 1/2. My confess so very poor, it took me years, time, many facilities,moves from 2011 in Louisiana transferee to Houston asap in 3 days - BLESSING! Methodist Hospital - BLESSING!, etc before I made it back to my hometown Tyler,Tx - 2015. 3 yrs of 0ther Neuro’s - 5 minutes with Dr K. I’ve been going forever ever since! He is A Sharp Knowledged Neurologist, There has been no stone overlooked in my care..., ???? Thank you, Dr K

Dr. K is a great neurologist. I've been having extremely terrible headaches. After several er visits and different doctors I got sent to Dr. K. I found out I suffer from pseudotumor cerebri. I'm still seeking possible options before making the decision on surgery.

Horrible time trying to see this doctor. Don't waste your time. Office is dysfunctional.

+Wait time is terrible but he is the most articulate and caring doctor my husband or I have ever seen. He took a difficult case and got to the root of the problem which I have no doubt saved my husbands life!!!!!!!!

After reading the review below I felt compelled to write my own. I have been a "professional patient" for approximately 7 years now. I had been desperately seeking answers as what was wrong with me. Since the other doctors lacked answers I was of course labeled as "anxious", "stressed", and the classic "imagining" things. Maybe you reading this have been told that too. I found a wonderful primary care who helped me a lot. We then came to the conclusion that perhaps seeing a neurologist could help complete the equation. He referred me to Dr. George Kariampuzha. That appointment changed my life. Ah, but alas, I *was* diagnosed with CIDP! (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy) This must be a mistake I'm sure the person below me must think! Oh, foolish doctor rushing in..a lazy blanket diagnosis. Well, um no. I had to have 15 vials of blood taken from me for multiple specialized tests that took a month to come in. Some of those sent to Mayo Clinic. I had to get 2 CT… scans. I had to go through specialized nerve tests. I had to be referred to other specialists for consultation. Including the best Rheumatologist in town to rule out other autoimmune diseases (Yes, full exam and tubes of blood). All my doctors came to the agreement of that it indeed WAS CIDP. That took 4 months from my first appointment. This was not taken lightly or rushed. Right before said expensive treatment started (which is IVIG, FYI) I was almost paralyzed. I had very little quality of life. After the first treatment with IVIG I was significantly better. I write this to you a year and a half on IVIG treatment and I can feel my toes again, I feel sensation in my legs again, and I jogged yesterday. My friends, that is nothing short of amazing. Thank God. As for the doctor who claimed that Dr. K diagnoses most his patients with CIDP, I just have a hard time believing this! In fact, most specialists I have seen post diagnosis actually know Dr. K personally and 1. Praise him and state how lucky I am to be in his care (including random phlebotomists, MRI/CT techs, nurses). That is not typical people. 2. Don't even know what CIDP is and *I* have to explain it to them. Well, that is typical! I also know a lot of the fellow CIDPers locally who sought second opinions elsewhere, including hospitals in Dallas and the Mayo Clinic. All of them were confirmed CIDP cases and agreed with Dr. K's treatment. Or they were diagnosed somewhere else and went to Dr. K for local treatment. I highly suspect if anything confirmation bias in said doctor's opinions as to regarding Dr. K's CIDP patients (CIDP patients happening to see Dr. K who is interested in autoimmune neurology vs blanket diagnosing). As the title states, Dr. Kariampuzha is MORE than just a compassionate, caring person. He is one of the sharpest and knowledge doctors I have ever met. Including things outside of Neurology. That is not normally the case with specialists. He has been a major part even in my non-neurological care with knowing exactly what to do. This man is not an all bark but no bite person. He is up to date on new treatments/research and always lets me know what is going on. I have never gotten anything than the best medical care from him. He never leaves until I understand, and he always lets me have control and my say. I have ever had anyone fight for me more than Dr. Kariampuzha has. Dr. K takes my care incredibly personally and is invested in me. And this is not even the full story. If you were referred to Dr. K and read this or the other review don't be worried. I was you once. Just know you are in good hands and he will treat you well. I *would* recommend him to anyone. There are 4-5 other doctors there and every time I go most everyone is there for Dr. K. You are in good company. And if you do get diagnosed with CIDP (Which I highly, highly doubt that is why you are being referred to him. There are not THAT many of us.) don't assume its wrong just because of what a reviewer say. A second opinion never hurts though. I'm just saying my experience highly differs from said person (though I am glad they got the diagnosis they were looking for!) and I don't even recognize the doctor they are referring to. Well, besides the nice and helpful part.

I wanted to get answers, just like everyone else. I just wanted to have some dr tell me that I wasn't crazy. That something was wrong with me. Finally I had a dr. that gave me answers. He was soo nice and helpful. Spent time with me and made me feel like he was truly concerned. Of course, I was misdiagnosed and went through treatments that were very unnecessary and very costly. I had another dr say that Dr. K diagnoses most of his patients with CIDP. That scared me and I finally got to a rheumatologist that finally found out what was wrong with me. (something very simple) I would never recommend Dr. K to anyone. I hope this will help others to always seek a second opinion if Dr. K says, "Have you ever heard of CIPD?".

Dr. K is one of the most caring, thorough and knowledgable doctors that I have ever been to! He has been treating me for over two years, and has always been willing to work with me on everything.

Dr. Kariampuzha (or Dr. K if you'd like) is a fantastic doctor. Before Dr. K I was a walking undiagnosed mess with very little hope. I have had so many doctors tell me that I was fine and "wanted" something wrong with me. I was very nervous the day of my first appointment, thinking he would be like all the others. But he was not! Dr. K took me very seriously and he found the problems that have been plaguing me for years. Now I am in the process of receiving treatment. Hopelessness, begone! Dr. K listens to me, he cares, he explains everything to me (with models and pictures) and really wants me to get better. He doesn't force me to do anything I don't want to and I feel in control.
