Dr. Jeffrey Theodore Harris, MD

This morning I called to let Dr. Harris know 3 of my medications would need to be filled by Friday. Imagine my horror and surprise when an answering service informed me "Dr. Harris no longer practices in Alabama". No one could tell me where the "good doctor" had gone or how to obtain my records. Dr. Harris harps on me about maintaining a low-stress environment (stress triggers my conditions). Imagine the stress I'm about to endure come Friday when I have NO medication.

My daughter has suffered from migraines for years. When we first visited Dr. Harris, we thought he was WONDERFUL! Well, let's just say you should not always rely on first impressions. He hospitalized her twice in two years and kept her on preventative meds without any relief. He had added a new medication that "should give immediate results." He asked me to call his office the following morning to let him know how the med was working. I called and they assured me they would have him call back. TWO DAYS later, I had to take my daughter to the ER because I could not get a call back from the doctor. It was another day before they called. NOW, let me assure you, they had my home and my cell number. They called the home number as we were walking out the door to go to a different neurologist. I didn't make it to the phone in time to answer it, but caller ID showed it was his office. I had my cell phone in my hand and so we left for the appointment thinking he would call the cell.… That was over 7 months ago and we have not heard a single word from him or his office. They never tried my cell number and they never tried the home number again. Now THAT is some excellent patient care, don't you think?!?!? For all they know, my daughter could have had a terrible reaction to the medication and died!His staff is another matter all together. The office staff is atrocious!! They have NO manners, NO professionalism, NO courtesy. I have been sitting in the waiting room and can very plainly hear their rudeness to patients on the phone. I truly believe a well mannered 10 year old could do a better job. His waiting area was always a total mess (dirty, smelly, and magazines strewn everywhere!) and packed with patients. There have been several times when we actually didn't have a place to sit! I'm not sure why there are so many patients there. It would make you think you are going to receive excellent patient care if so many people are there. Honestly, I think he may be a Medicaid provider and the patients simply have no choice. So sad...The doctor was out of town on a family emergency and my daughter needed a prescription refilled. The Nurse Practicioner assured me she had called it in to the pharmacy. I called the pharmacy to make sure they had it before I went to get it. They said they had not heard from his office. So, I called the office back and they again assured me that they had called in the refill. I double checked with them to make sure they had the correct pharmacy and the correct phone number. They did have the correct information, so I went to the pharmacy thinking they had simply overlooked it. When I got there, the had no refill for my daughter. They searched and even went back and double checked their messages in case they had overlooked it. There was no prescription there. SO, once again I called the office. It was 35 minutes before they closed. NO ONE answered the phone. It went to the answering service and they couldn't explain why no one was answering. They said they would page the nurse practicioner and have her call. I was insturcted to call them back if I had not heard from her within 15 minutes. Well, I waited 20 minutes and called them back. They paged the DOCTOR and the NP again. I waited another 45 minutes and never got a response to the page. Fortunately, my pharmicist was very understanding and since the medication was was not a controlled substance, she gave me 1 pill for my daughter and just deducted it from the refill when I got it the next day. I had to go to their office to get the prescription and they offered no explaination as to why it was never called in. Not even an apology! Later I learned that the doctor's hospital privileges at one of the area hospitals had been revoked. I only wish I had known all this before we began seeing him.Their entire office is totally ridiculous. PLEASE don't be taken in my this doctor's seemingly kind and caring nature. It is really not worth it. I hope to never see him again, and I don't mean as a patient. I can control whether I see him as a patient and that will NOT happen.

Dr. Harris is great but he needs to get a better staff. The lady I talked to on the phone was very rude and unwilling to help. I have been waiting on a letter from Dr. Harris for almost 2 weeks. As of today I still have not gotten anyone to send that letter over to my employer.

He is very caring man that is compassionate to all his patients and society. He is start forward with what he needs to say

I had gone to this doc for over a couple years due to a stable condition of Epilepsy. I had not noticed my medication was running low with no refill and even after saying that I had only 5 days left they would not schedule an appt earlier than a month away and WOULD NOT give me a short term refill just to get to the appt date. Later, I was planning to travel overseas and when I requested a statement of prescription for the airline they said "You have to pay ahead for the fax and we need 2 weeks to send you anything". I was leaving in 4 days.... They didn't care at all and said "nothing we can do". Lack of care, lack of professionalism, lack of knowledge on the part of the office staff. Don't go to this doctor, just don't.

While he may be a good doctor I wouldn't know as he never showed up even though I spent over two hours in his office. His courtesy and his staff are a different matter.We sat in his outer office with other patients for over an hour, perhaps longer. The other patients went back slowly and left with either medications or making other appointments.After about an hour and a half I had to use the restroom. It was in the back area of the office. When I was returning to the waiting room I noticed all the exam rooms were empty as was the doctors office. At that point a woman told me I might as well come on in for my visit. A woman there introduced herself as his nurse/physcians assistant.She then talked to us about nonsense for about another 30 minute's and then started to do an in depth neurological examination of me during the rest of our second hour. She did not diagnosis anything even though she did lay her head on the table and cry "oh, my no! can this get any worse" referring to my… symptoms.When I asked about the doctor as we were getting more then a bit uncomfortable we were finally told he had apparently gone to see his "sick granny" after lunch and apparently wasn't going to come back that day.The nurse then gave me a bag of drugs for Multiple Sclerosis and said she would "figure out a way to get me another test to confirm my diagnosis". Dr. Harris being one of two doctors I was to see for diagnosis.Two weeks later she called and got my answering machine to tell me he was still "with sick granny as granny had died" but not to worry she was still trying to get me that test. The problem was his hospital privileges had been pulled so she was having to ask for favors to get the tests done on the "QT".I never heard from them again nor did I ever bother to make a return visit.
