Dr. John Frederick De Groot, MD

I saw this doctor when I was newly diagnosed with rare cancer. He listened to complaints and typed his clinic notes. Later I read what he wrote in his clinic notes. He wrote that the patient was very anxious and was worried that his tumor had already spread and he was dying. The whole narrative was blaming me for being extra anxious. He provided no help , no support whatsoever. It was very harsh on his part to focus on the anxiety of the patient and blaming the patient for that, knowing that the patient was already traumatized by the diagnosis of cancer and had valid concerns about his condition. Much later when my overall condition was worsening, I started losing weight and etc., I asked for an MRI and he refused to give me an MRI noting via his nurse that “an MRI was not a cancer screening tool” , that “revelation” coming from an oncologist left me speechless. I have never seen him since that episode. Please choose another oncologist if you want to get any help with your cancer.

I would definitely recommend UCSF & their wonderful doctors to everyone I know & their specialties above & beyond, good work.
