Dr. Kristi Mari Funk, MD

Dr. Funk is the best Doctor around. Very knowledgeable & takes the time to explain everything to you. Her office staff however, not so great. Been trying to cancel my appointment & even left messages to call me back, no return calls. Very hard to reach.

TI’ve read several reviews (good or bad) wherein patients have mentioned receiving mammograms, I’m assuming at the Pink Lotus facility. I was an 17+ year patient of the Women’s Breast center in Santa Monica. At my last mammogram at WBC, we were told that PLBC had purchased the practice, and that we could stay at this (soon to be new PL) location with our records, or get our records and go elsewhere. I just assumed (naively I might add!) that PL would be a top-notch place, so I chose to stay with PL. My next mammogram post WBC, I called PL to make an appointment. I was told that there was an issue with the business transfer paperwork with the state, and would get a call back when it was resolved and the Santa Monica location was up and running! A year later, still no call. I called PL again for a mammogram appointment, only to be told now that PL chose not to keep the former WBC Santa Monica location open. So I asked about a mammogram at the PL location only to be told that PL… had purchased a new “state-of-the-art” mammography machine with PL being given the first of this new machine, HOWEVER, there was a problem with a part, so, again, no mammographies are being conducted until that part was received! Again, I was told I’d get a call back when the NEW machine was fixed to make an appointment. I called several months later, and was told again about the problem with the machine part, so, again, no mammograms. Several months ago, I sent in a records release, as I finally gave up and came to the conclusion that PL must be strictly a breast center that takes care of “after” mammography issues, since they haven’t been performing any mammograms for a few years now! I received only my last three mammograms! I called again and told the clerk (I thought in the med records) department that I wanted ALL my records WITH my baseline mammogram. I was told that 1) that you don’t need your baseline anymore, and 2) not ALL our records may have followed us to PL (setting me up for the explanation that the WBC may not have kept all our records that PL doesn’t have!), and 3) that all the medical records (I’m assuming more than three years old) are in an off-site storage location AND they’re NOT accessible because PL is in a two-way financial dispute (for several months now) with the storage facility company! (I’m assuming for non-payment of some kind from PL!). So, not only does PL not conduct mammographies for several years now, though they advertise they do(!!!!), our records are now being held hostage at a storage facility for lord knows how long over a payment dispute! How can our baseline mammograms not be important?! We’re told as young ladies that our baseline is what every mammogram after that one is compared to!! None of this seems at all legal to me, so I’ll let my complaint to the medical boar take care of it!!!

One year ago yesterday I walked into Pink Lotus Breast Center feeling like a statistic-1 of thousands of women diagnosed with breast cancer. I'd already seen other doctors about my diagnosis and those experiences had left me confused, anxious and frustrated. Immediately on entering Pink Lotus all of that changed. I was treated professionally and with compassion. It was the first time since being diagnosed that a medical team made me feel that I was more than a statistic and that I was important and special. When I meet Dr. Kristi Funk, I knew I had become part of a family consisting of an extraordinary knowledgeable and talented oncology breast surgeon and support staff. I am beyond grateful to Dr. Funk and her team for being patient, kind, and understanding. More importantly for giving me, not only the care I needed but the knowledge I needed to make the best decisions regarding my case. Thank you Dr. Funk and Pink Lotus for being not only the "dream team" but for giving m the courage… to fight and win against breast cancer!

Dismissive, cold and disinterested. No listening.

Impossible to either reach a person or leave a message. The only way to leave a message is on the appointments line and they simply don't return calls. I have had a surgery scheduled and have several important questions but no way to reach even a front desk person to ask them or leave a question for the surgeon.

This review is long overdue. I was diagnosed with Stage 2A breast cancer in Spring 2013. I went in because I discovered a lump and fully expected it to be nothing. Thanks to Dr. Taylor's proactiveness by doing a biopsy even though she also expected it to be nothing (mostly due to my age and family history), my cancer was caught early. She was wonderfully supportive and compassionate when I went in for my consultation after this diagnosis and laid out all my options, answered all my questions, and was so understanding of the shock I was going thru. Dr. Taylor went on maternity leave prior to my surgery but transitioned me to Dr. Funk. Dr. Funk has been amazing throughout my 2 year journey. When my tumor grew during chemo and I had to wrestle with the decision of moving my double mastectomy surgery up, she was there for me the whole way with answering questions, coordinating with my other doctors, giving advice when I needed, being understanding of how hard this process is and… can be. She is always accessible and responsive and I'm so grateful and thankful to have been referred to Pink Lotus. I completely disagree with the reviews that you need to be a celebrity to get excellent care - I became a patient around the time that the Angelina Jolie story broke and I never have felt any effects of this. I've always been treated as a person (not a number) and with great care. Jackie (Surgical Coordinator) is amazing and unbelievably sweet and helpful! Thank you to everyone at Pink Lotus for getting me thru this difficult time and continuing to look out for me!

Dr. Funk was personable and friendly but I waited an hour to see her. Her staff wasn't overly friendly and only acknowledged my waiting about 5 minutes before I was called in. I hope her celebrity doesn't get in the way with her treating her patients but we shall see.

I HAVE CALLED 6X AND LEFT MESSAGES AND NOBODY HAS CALLED ME BACK, I EVEN ASKED FOR THE FAX # TO FAX THEM AND I CANT GET THAT!

Dr. Kristi Funk is a great doctor very accurate and did my ultrasound and breast biopsy right away results were givin to me right away. I would diffenately recommend her as a surgeon doctor unfortunately my insurance has changed ad I am un able to follow up with her and my new doctor is not that great at all in fact I am trying to get a PPO ins so I can have her as my doctor.

After having found out I had Breast Cancer, I met with three surgeons (Dr. Funk being the 2nd). After the 3rd consult, although all 3 were strong candidates, there was no question that I would entrust my body, my life with Dr. Funk. She was knowledgeable, professional, sensitive and had a, much needed/appreciated, calming bedside manner. She spent as much time as we (I was with family members) needed; never rushing the questions, the consulting process. We came away from the office visit remarkably comforted and hopeful. As well, Pink Lotusâ?? office was impeccable, well equipped with magazines, the floral arrangements were a nice touch and the staff was friendly and courteous. I will share that in Dr. Funkâ??s good hands, the surgery was simple â?? a Lumpectomy and Lymph Node removal. I waited, patiently, for the results and was faced with the decision as to what type of follow-up treatment I would choose. In the long run, and it wasnâ??t a quick decision, I opted for the non-typical… direct Radiation therapy. Dr. Funk, with a room filled with my family, skillfully inserted the Mammosite; all the while allowing for our ridiculous banter â?? of course, designed to divert my attention. To say that she is kind and inhabits, again, a calming bedside manner is a gross understatement. 2+ years later, I am ecstatic to report that I am Cancer free, thrilled with my decision to entrust Dr. Funk and Pink Lotus with my well being and highly recommend her as a surgeon! PS Her â??buddy systemâ??; affording her patient to connect with another patient, who has had a similar experience, was an amazing touch! From the ground up, Dr. Funk and Pink Lotus genuinely care and, for that, I am forever grateful.
