Unfortunately the BBB, Bexar Medical Board and Dr. Heckmans office staff will get this report. I'm a patient on a fixed income. The office and doctor knew this from the beginning. When the doctor did my left shoulder, I had no issues with the office staff. When it came time to get my right shoulder done, doctor did surgery and had no issues. NOW, before going into surgery for right shoulder, payment was given to cover most of the out of pocket cost except for $86. When it came time for my follow up AnaLisa, Amanda (ofc staff) informed me that I would have to pay in full before seeing the doctor. The reason was because they had no one to collect payments anymore. That the office was short staffed and no one could collect payments. REALLY??? What only full payments???? Dr Heckman was informed of this and all he responded to this, is "well I have no control over how the office is run"!!!! WOW!! IT'S HIS OFFICE. So needless to say that the patient is the one that has to endure the… consequences of his lack of control of his office and staff. So I can't have my follow up after surgery because of this ridiculous reason. And I will be finding out whether this visit is under my coverage with my insurance to allow me the follow up appointment. For $86!!! This amount might not be much to other people, but for people on fixed incomes, it is. I will definitely be going further with this because the patient should not be the one affected for the lack of office staff or the lack of inability to train someone in the office to take payments for services.

Great bedside manner and great sense of humor but most of all a great dr Worked on my shoulder and was very grateful

I found Dr. Heckman because he is the surgeon the University of Texas Orthopedic Surgery residents recommend to see if you have an ACL injury. He started me on physical therapy and even my therapist said that his patients did so well and were up and about much faster than those who were treated by other doctors. He is definitely to one to see if you are really interested in returning to competitive sports after your injury.

My family and I have been patients of Dr. Michael Heckman for over 10 years with knee and shoulder issues. He is an excellent surgeon, as well as a very caring physician. His approach is to explore all avenues before immediately considering surgery. I will continue to recommend Dr. Heckman to family members and friends.

I fell on my left knee and caused some damage to the carthlege.Dr Heckman did arthroscopy surgery on my knee removing a peice of carthlege .The pain is just as bad now as it was before, and I can hardly walk on that leg. He said it is my knee cap thats the cause of the pain. Why he didn't fix it is beyond me.At this time I would not recommend Him for surgery.

An excellent experience. Diagnosis was accurate on my knee. He recommended conservative treatment. He is very personable and spent significant time with me.

Amazing doc, best ortho knee in SA possibly TX. Wait to see him is somewhat long but I think it's well worth it.

First of all really: THIS IS THE GUY YOU NEED TO GO TO!!!! Heckman is fantastic!!! He was able to correct the poor work (failed on very first day) reconstruction performed at Texas San Antonio Orthopedic Group by one of the their young "rising star" doctors... My son missed his senior year of High School because we went to a lesser surgeon. How I wish we could do it again and just have gone to Dr. Heckman from the get go. He is the expert that people go to when their surgeries fail, well why not just go to the best to begin with. I wouldn't wish what happened to my son on anyone. Recuperation after surgery was way better, my son was able to take the most minimal of pain meds because of Dr. Heckman's protocol of a one night hospital stay after surgery. I was a little suspicious about the need for it but the result was wonderful, my son had his knee drained before discharge and that seemed to make all the difference in the world with recovery. My son is 19 and back to… playing at full speed with no limitations whatsoever, we are so happy at the result provided by this fine Doctor. We can't help but hug the guy whenever we see him now. Spurs doctors are an OK option but I firmly believe that Dr. Heckman is the very best. For me, my family, friends and anyone that will listen. THIS IS THE GUY YOU NEED TO GO TO!!!!

He has been able to diagnose the reason why I am having problems with my shoulder after being evaluated by other doctors without help.
