Dr. Richard Ryan Brewington, MD

Brewington inherited my family member as part of a caseload from a doctor who retired from the same practice. In the two years that our loved on was under his care, their condition worsened beyond a point that even we recognized. Not until an emergency situation, during which he was unavailable, did we begin to see that other doctors have far different practices and medication recommendations. In contrast to these doctors, In conversations, Brewington has an insouciant lack of concern, regardless of the situation -- perhaps all his patients suffer from such a lack of pride in work.

Richard Brewington is (was) a really nice guy and I will accede that our son has a complex medical history. Our son saw him for two years. In retrospect, 10-11 psych meds are not helpful! He was taking uppers and downers concurrently to treat the side effects of his many medications. Meds are rarely discontinued - only new ones added. The final straw was when Dr. B disappeared for 3 weeks in the midst of a crisis with no doctor to cover for him. Messages went unreturned. When I finally reached someone I was told we were "on our own". Our family doctor wrote refills to avoid cold turkey withdrawals until we could get a new psych in place (It took months.) I was a fan, but no longer.

I have been in and out of care with different doctors for 32 years. Dr Brewington is incredible with medicine, knows about insurance and is very caring and compassionate. I have seen him for several years and he is by far the best psychiatrist I have ever had. I think he would be wonderful for any age and issue. He really listens.

I know by writing this he will probably, if not definitely, know exactly who I am if he reads this. So be it! I saw Dr. B. in a PHP & IOP setting, once a week for months. Firstly, this dude talks about himself for at least 1/2 of the session, if not more. My first red flag was when after weeks of him pushing me to consider trying medication for my bipolar again, that when I finally agreed to it, he said he wasn't "convinced I was bipolar." I have to laugh. My bipolar (type 2) was pretty textbook when I was first diagnosed and after trying several meds that only made me feel worse, I decided to take a break from mood stabilizers. I was in extensive, DBT specialized individual and group therapies weekly, and worked very hard to use other methods to cope with life and help with emotion regulation. I'm pretty sure this doctor sees medication as an absolute must, rather than a tool, and wasn't satisfied that I was at a point mental health wise where it wasn't something I needed from him.… There were a few conversations we had towards the last half of my stay where Dr B. didn't just cross the line with me, he hopped, skipped, and jumped over it! And I mean hard boundaries for me, things that had to do with my morals, and NOTHING to do with meds or mental illness. On one instance he said something that I don't even want to repeat. I just don't trust him. I felt like any time I disagreed with him or questioned something, he took it as me being noncompliant and hard to work with. All I'm saying is he needs to ditch the arrogance. If you receive good, quality care from him, then I am genuinely very happy for you. But be your own advocate. Yes, he's a doctor, but make informed decisions. Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for more information.

Helped me a great deal when another psychiatrist would listen to what I was going through.

Does not do hospital visit. But I am positive if he did that he would have EXCELLENT bed side manner. Dr. Brewington literally saved my life! Been to several Doctor's and if not for him I wouldn't be doing this survey. Thank you for giving me back my life Dr. Brewington.

I instantly felt comfortable talking to him and being completely honest. He is very educated and is great at explaining all the different options you have and not just meds, he talks about other therapies, always asks about the family- since that is a huge part of my life and aniexty!! I recommend him to all my friends and family. I drive from the legends to see him.. He has made my life so much better in so many ways! He's open for changes and always listens to his patients, but like we all need is this position he's a voice of reason;)!!!

This is the best doctor I have ever had and I have had a few.
