Dr. Ryan Wayne Leonard, DO

Had surgery scheduled with Dr. Leonard. Procedure scheduled before insurance approvals, which I was told was rather routine. Surgery cancelled TWICE literally 48 hours before surgery, due to non-response of Dr. Leonard's office staff to my insurance. My insurance company told me that it was extremely unusual for an office to be that unresponsive to their requests. Dr. Leonard was professional and kind. His office staff on the other hand was flippant and even incompetent to the point that it was almost comical (besides the wasted co-pay, deductible, and time off for work for a surgery that never happened). Office manager apologized and admitted that they simply "forgot." But twice? Scary enough for me to not want to go back.

I was assured by Carrie, Dr Leonard's assistant, that my procedure was preauthorized by my insurance. Here I am, one year later, with bills from everywhere (hospital, doctor, anesthesiologist) for a procedure that my insurance does not cover. If I had been told it was not covered, I wouldn't have had this procedure done. So beware of this staff and what they tell you!

Dr. Leonards did a really good job with my sons ear infections.

Dr Leonard was great with listening to my concerns. He has always spent the time to explain things and review my Cat scans. I wouldn't see any other ENT in TC.

I always vowed that I would "go out of town for elective surgery", since I was always impressed with big-city doctors and their range of experience. However, Dr. Leonard impressed me enough on my pre-surgery-"trial"that I "elected" to stay right HERE in the Tri-Cities for a VERY complicated thyroid procedure. I cannot say enough for his subsequent professionalism and level of care! Dr. Leonard may look like a kind, sweet guy, but when he talks about his profession, he is a pit bull for laser-focus and you as the patient will benefit from his considerable expertise. I see that another reviewer didn't like his practice of pointing out possible "worst case scenarios", but I actually appreciate the fact that Doctor Leonard doesn't sugar-coat the problem because he does everything in his power to AVERT an unhappy outcome. As my husband says, " I appreciate not having any ugly surprises" (of course, he's an accountant, and used to delivering ALL the options to HIS clients:). Hooray… for Dr. Leonard! I am recommending him to all of my friends. He is a great asset, and the TriCities just became a safer place to have an ENT/Thyroid problem!

This doctor was terrible when it came to his bedside manner. I had a mass that was possibly cancer, he walked in the room with a look on his face like oh man, I have bad news for you and then told me in the most uncompassionate way that my test results looked bad. I immediately found another doctor and was much more satisfied with the level of care at the new doctor.

I was surprised and pleased with Dr. Leonard and his relaxed and friendly manner. His staff is nice as well. He knows how to engage and interact with my young child, and my older children as well. He performed my child's surgery and talked with me about the procedure and answered my questions in simple terms without any condescension. I would highly recommend him to anyone else, especially those with young children, or kids with special needs.

-Nice staff. Dr.Leonard was knowledgable, explained anatomy and function,I was able to review my CT scan with him and he took the time to answer my questions. I would not hesitate to refere him to a friend. Thank you
