Ruslan Safarov, MD Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Board Eligible & Fellowship Trained Ruslan Safarov, MD joined the tri state specialist as a Sports Medicine Doctor in 2018. He is a board-eligible orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the care of athletes and disorders of the shoulder, elbow and knee. Dr. Safarov is the head team physician for Sioux City Bandits and Sioux City Musketeers. Dr. Safarov completed an orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship at the Lenox Hill Hospital New York, NY, under the direction of Dr. Stephen Nicholas and Dr. Elliot Hurshman , where he received the 2017-2018 award for excellence in clinical research. In New York, Dr. Safarov was the team physician for Manhattanville Collage and numerus high school teams, and assisted with the care of athletes from the New York Jets Football Club and the New York Islanders Hockey Team. Dr. Safarov received his undergraduate degree from Stony Brook University and was a member of varsity swimming and diving team. As a member of NCAA D1 swimming team receiving multiple awards and recognitions including team captain during his senior year and all academic team. He continued his education at the Northeast Ohio Medical University where he received his medical degree. He then went on to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency at SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine in Stony Brook, New York, where he was Administrative Chief Resident from 20016-2017. While in Stony Brook, Dr. Safarov assisted in the care of the Stony Brook ice hockey team (AHL), the John Glen High School Varsity Football Team.
