Alexander M. Aboka, MD, MPH, is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in arthroscopy, sports medicine and shoulder and knee reconstructive surgery.

Dr Aboka is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

He holds a Doctor of Medicine and a Master in Public Health degrees from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Aboka completed Orthopaedic Surgery Residency training at the University of New Mexico, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at the world-renowned Cincinnati Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center, under the tutelage of Dr Frank Noyes, one of the most acclaimed and influential arthroscopic knee and ACL surgeons in a generation.

Dr Aboka has extensive training in sports medicine and athletic injury management. He utilizes the most advanced arthroscopic techniques for the knee, shoulder, elbow, and ankle joints, as well as complex reconstructive techniques for shoulder and knee instability and cartilage damage.
He performs full, …partial and patello-femoral knee replacement, and total, partial and reverse shoulder replacement procedures.
Dr Aboka has a special interest in arthroscopic management of hip disorders of the athlete, including femoro-acetabular impingement, labral tears, snapping hip and tendon tears.

He has extensive experience working with athletes at all levels, providing sports medicine care for the University of New Mexico Lobos, New Mexico Mustangs Hockey, Hampton Roads Whalers Hockey and the Cincinnati Bengals.

dr. aboka is one of the best, if not the best, doctor that I have encountered since moving to virginia. he operated on both of my knees, 7 months apart of course. i have a unique situation. I have a B.K.A.. but he waas able to get me through the tough times. i have so much faith in him that i suggested my fiancee have carpel tunnel surgery done by him. i would like to suggest that anybody needing orthopaedic surgery actually run, wheel, limp, or however you can get there, to see him so he can straighten whatever medical problems you may have. thanks doc. we really appreciate your skill and expertice. mike heaton and veronica coats

Dr Aboka and his staff are top notch. They take the time to get to know you and spend time listening. I have not had a more friendly, courteous, thorough Doctor than Dr. Aboka and his staff.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE ATMOSPHERE OF THE OFFICE AND THE STAFF. I RESPECT THAT DR. OBAKA DOESNT SPEAK IN A LANGUAGE THAT IS TAUGHT TO HIM FOR HIS PROFESSION BUT IN A MANNER THAT IS KIND, GENTLE AND UNDERSTANDING. HE ACTUALLY LISTENS TO YOU AND THEN WILL BE STRAIGHT UP AND HONEST AS NOT TO SUGAR COAT ANYTHING BUT TO TRY TO HELP EASE ANY CONCERNS YOU MAY BE HAVING. I MUST SAY OUT OF ALL THE DR'S IN HIS FIELD I HAD VISITED THROUGHOUT MY INJURY HIS IS THE BEST. ACTUALLY I WISH HE WAS THE FIRST AS MY I MAY NOT BE SUFFERING WITH MY INJURY TODAY. Dr. Aboka and his staff is GREAT! His staff makes you feel so comfortable each and every visit. I had so much fun getting my X-rays done. The tech had me laughing. So when I normally would have been nervous I was at ease. Dr. Aboka, what can I say about him, he's the best. If it wasn't for him I would still be in worlds of pain. ð???

I saw Dr. ABOKA for a torn rotator cuff. The office staff was very friendly, welcoming and professional as was the nurse. Dr. Aboka was very knowledgeable and took the time to really go over what was going on with my shoulder and discuss a plan for treatment. He was not pushy but laid out the options for me. I ended up having Dr. Aboka do surgery for my torn rotator cuff. I am two weeks post op and feel very comfortable with the work Dr. Aboka did on my shoulder. The office staff has been very helpful in follow up and I would definitely recommend Dr. Aboka to anyone in a similar situation and I would have no issue returning to see him if needed in the future for another issue.

Dr. Aboka did a rotator cuff repair and a bicep tendon repair on me a year ago. Though my recovery has been slow, a result of the type or surgery, not the surgeon. Dr. Aboka and his staff have been outstanding from beginning to end. My should and I thank you.

Can't say enough good thins about Doctor Aboka and his staff. They are second to none!!!. My total shoulder replacement surgery went well. I highly recommend Dr. Aboka to take care of your orthopaedic needs.
