Dr. Brick Eduardo Alva, MD

My husband had very poor experience with Dr Alva, who presented very condescending and rude during the visit. He did not answer his questions, and rushed him through the appointment When my husband went to pick up his medicine (on the weekend) that he needed to take before his procedure on Monday, the medicine wasn’t at the pharmacy I called the office and talked to the answering services. They sent a message to the doctor, and later the doctor called me and scolded me, saying “how dare you to bother the doctor on the weekend”. I’ve been a nurse for over a decade, and never in my life I’ve heard a doctor speak to his patient in this manner.Needless to say, we cancelled all the follow up appointments with him, and found another gastroenterologist who is wonderful. We requested his record transferred, but they refused to give it to us without an appointment, even though I told them it’s our rights as patients to get a copy of the results. This office is seriously messed up. Avoid at all… cost!

I have acid reflux, and I had to change to doctor Alva after my previous doctor left. It seems to me every time I need a refill is a huge problem, I have see him or call or get an endoscopy. Last time I called to his office about a refill the guys who answered the phone basically told after I complained about the whole process and compared him to my previous doctor he told me me” let’s not compare to other doctors” and hung up on me. I am done. He was never really a good doctor, never gave me any good medical advice just below average. Not a lot of interest in helping me.

Dr. Alva is wonderful! Takes his time with a patient and asks many questions to be sure he is providing the best medical care for the patient.

Worst bedside manner. Incorrect billing. Doesn't listen to patient. Didn't correctly schedule procedure at hospital

My husband had CT scan in ER before hospitalizing for cholecystectomy, and it showed white matter on my husband's stomach. During the surgery the surgeon didn't see anything. After that my husband was referred to this doctor for an endoscopy. Endoscopy showed H.Pylori but no signs of any "white something" on my husband's stomach. After that Dr. Alva suggested some sort of X Ray, that had to be done in Harlingen and if that didn't help then to have another surgery to find out what that thing is (?). My husband said that there would be easier to do another CT scan, because he remembered that he didn't remove the heating pad from his back before the procedure and if it was possible for that to affect the CT scan result, but Dr. Alva said that he doesn't doubt CT scan person professionalism. My husband went to our family doctor and he ordered another CT scan. There was nothing on that second CT scan of course.
