Dr. Dan Sotirescu, MD

At my first appointment, Dr. Sotirescu introduced himself and immediately asked who referred me to hematology--was it a doctor or a PA? When I shared that it was a PA, he told me to "get a real doctor," and proceeded to dismiss my symptoms because my iron was fine. Not sure why I returned after that. This latest interaction, however, will be the reason I don't go back. I've been dealing with severe restless leg syndrome for the last 3 months, getting only an average of 4 1/2 hours of (interrupted) sleep a night. I messaged Dr. Sotirescu to see if I should have him address the issue, since low ferritin is often the culprit. Keep in mind that, for the last 2 1/2 years while taking oral iron, my ferritin has only DECREASED. Not only did it take him 3-4 weeks to get back to me, but he proceeded to tell me my restless leg syndrome was not caused by an iron deficiency and to try something else. THANKFULLY, sleep medicine understood RLS and the ferritin and iron saturation levels… associated with it. My sleep doctor immediately ordered an iron infusion. Since having the infusion, I have had ZERO problems with restless leg syndrome--no thanks to Dr. Sotirescu. I don't need the arrogance and gaslighting and will be looking for someone who actually is knowledgeable about the most recent recommendations on my conditions.

Dr. Sotirescu (Dr. Dan) is one of my favorite doctors' He's very thorough, he takes his time with you and treats you like you are his favorite patient. Dr. Dan is a very pleasant and reminds of doctors of old...when they really cared.

Dr. Sotirescu the most caring, compassionate, fun loving Dr I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. His bedside manner is awesome! I always get a hug from him and so does my family when they are able to attend my appointments. My family adores him as do I. He has stayed on top of my progress and makes me feel like I'm his favorite patient! I don't know what the other bad reviews are about, maybe they had him on an off day or something. But they way they are describing him is not the way I've been treated!

I have to respond to some of the more critical reviews of Dr. Dan. He may be a little tech challenged and a bit of an absent minded professor, but I found him thorough, caring and right on top of his game.

Dr. Dan takes the time to explain things in a thoughtful way. It appears he makes each patient feel like they ae the only one he has....exscellent and knowledgable physician.

very impressed- compassionate, down to earth- explained details of my husband's cancer and ordered follow up tests- He spent over one hour with us. He referred us to Johns Hopkins. We are very confident in his medical opinion and expertise.

Wow, I cannot BELIEVE the horrible things that were said about Dr. Dan. This CANNOT be the same doctor! I met him in a hospital stay and he suggested I get an appointment with him after he had done a lot of bloodwork on me. I went and he hugged me when he walked in the door! And when I left! He offered me a treatment that would help my physical condition and I readily accepted his offer. It worked and I absolutely owe him a debt of gratitude for being the most carring, considerate doctor I have EVER encountered in my medical history. He is nothing less then a compassionate awesome man dedicated to the well being of all of his patients. Yes, he was late for my appointment too, and yes, he was on the phone...but if that were my mom or my sister on the phone, I indeed would leave the man alone. It was well worth the wait to have this tall delightful doctor hug me when he came in and tell me my problem was NOT cancer. And if his nurse really made those statements to you, she should be… dismissed of her duties with him. NO ONE should EVER say rude things to a doctor who cares enough about his patients to spend a little more time with them. Emergencies are just that, EMERGENCIES. They are unplanned and sometimes we all get caught up in a doctors schedule that has subjected us to the late, later, and latest appointment. Call your doctor before you leave the house and see if he's running late. If they are, reschedule! Don't complain! If it were you this doctor was on the phone with I'll bet a billion you wouldn't say to him, "Gee doc, you'd better stop telling me about other options for my cancer treatment now and go take care of your scheduled patients..." Don't expect any consideration of other medical problems that MAYBE due to cancer.The Dr. must agree to see you for an appointment. You cannot call in for an appointment, because it must be run by the nurse, and if it suits him, you may get an appointent. Otherwise, you are just taking up his time, as I was told by his nurse. I was told by another Dr. to see this Dr., or I would not have bothered. He appears caring, but if you don't have your right mind, and can remember what he didn't do, you are in big trouble.

This doctor made us wait over 2 1/2 hours in the waiting room while we could hear him on a personal phone call for a half hour. Did not familiarize himself with our chart and diagnosis. Made us believe that our cancer had spread throughout the body when it was only an appointment for optional medication for an invasive procedure. When we were finally able to see Dr Dan Sotirescu he said we should come back for another appointment after only spending 5 minutes with us. Needless to say we are not going back to see Dr Dan Sotirescu...
