Dr. Daniel Mark Begel, MD

I'm considering filing a formal complaint with the board of medicine. Dr. Begel fired me after I consulted with another provider who did not agree with is methods. Dr. Begel called me a drug addict for taking medication prescribed by a different physician of 10 years. Dr. Begel thought it was ok for me to be unwell enough to work for months during a med change and left me with chronic, unresolved insomnia. Dr. Begel never attempted to consult with any of my other providers. Dr. Begel should lose his license because he thought he knew better than any other doctor and never sought to fully understand my case.

Dr. Begel came highly recommended by colleagues of my Psychologist. It was very easy to get an appointment and I could not have been more satisfied with my experience. I did not have to wait. It was very difficult to open up as I have PTSD, but Dr. Begel was very professional, compassionate, calm, intelligent, genuine, conscientious, and provided a sense of safety. I felt that he was a great listener, spent enough time with me and understood my concerns--symptomatically and in regards to taking pharmaceuticals. I could not have asked for a better doctor. I definitely will be recommending him to others. I'm not sure why another reviewer gave him such a poor rating. Maybe they were expecting a rock doctor. I'm glad that he is not. Good doctors don't treat a diagnosis, they listen to a patient and treat their symptoms. I was so relieved that he didn't want to write a prescription after spending only one appointment with me.

This is the first psychiatrist I saw who didn't make me feel crazy. Listened to what was special about me, didn't follow a formula. Took his time, explained what he was doing and why, didn't act like he knew everything, though he is obviously smart. Gave me some choices and options. Felt like we were working together.

Avoid!-mislead me to believe he would help me-poorly structured sessions, rambles, just listens, waits for me to talk about "something"-seemed bored during these unstructured discussion sessions.- Initial consult he indicated he would, after a few sessions, prescribe medication which I know works well for my condition.- After a few sessions, he changed his tune and stated he didn't think I needed medication.
