Dr. Surendra Chaganti, MD

Dr. Chaganti is one of those rare medical practitioners that make you understand why sociopaths get into the profession - because they have a god complex and thrive on misusing their power over suffering people. It is clear that, as a trained psychiatrist, he somehow still does not believe that some conditions like ADHD are real. I have been on a low dose of the most commonly prescribed ADHD drug for more than six years now and it's been a great help to me, but Dr. Chaganti refused to continue my prescription when I began seeing him, insisting that I first get an EKG (sometimes recommended in these situations, but certainly not necessary) and take this weird online test to confirm my diagnosis despite my offer of five years worth of notes from my previous psychiatrist who initially diagnosed me and talked to me for an hour each month during that time. I got the EKG immediately and it came back slightly irregular, leading to a terrifying 3.5 months for me until finding out it was… completely fine. During my next appt he continued to deny my prescription, saying I hadn't completed the test - which his office never sent me. He insisted they did, because he loves to imply that people are liars (he's projecting; read on), only for me to follow up afterward and confirm that his office had in fact NOT sent it. All told I suffered two months of a lower quality of life without my medication even after completing the test which corroborated that I do in fact have ADHD and getting a note from my cardiologist confirming that it was fine for me to resume the medication I had, again, been taking regularly for five years with no issue at all. He finally consented to do his actual job and prescribe it to me after making me wait again to video chat with him for two minutes even after receiving the paperwork from my doctor. I continued to stick it out despite his bad attitude and deeply unpleasant personality until he lied to my face. I asked for three months worth of meds because I was about to be working out of the US for part of the summer and he straight up denied it, saying it was company policy not to prescribe three months at a time. Since I've had no problem with this before ever, I followed up with Brain Health USA and was told that it is NOT, in fact, company policy. He just didn't want to do it, and he doesn't even have the courage of his own convictions not to just admit that. So he lied to me. All of this, again, over a low dose of a commonly prescribed drug for a common mental illness that the test he made me take PROVED I do indeed have! I have mental health issues. I came to this doctor to help me simply by continuing the prescriptions that have worked for me for FIVE YEARS and to be treated like a pill seeking liar, causing me untold amounts of harm via unnecessary stress for months on end, was devastating. I don't know how a person can get into the field of health care--with CARE right there in the name!--and not only not show one iota of empathy for a patient who comes to him for help, but to try to make that patient feel as invalidated as possible, and then to just shamelessly LIE to them...wild. You deserve a better doctor than this. I deserve a better doctor than this, we all do. Please, for your own sake, steer clear of this man.

I just had a virtual experience with him. He’s definitely the most dismissive and rushed I’ve ever had from psych health. He listed the symptoms of depression carelessly and rapidly, even after asking him to slow down so I could evaluate if I have had the symptoms. I scheduled through Brain Health and asked them twice if he’s qualified to assess a particular concern for me, a relatively common concern, and they said yes. Not two minutes in, he’s telling me he can’t and that I need to get a neurological psychologist to evaluate me. So, I ask him, is there someone you can refer me to? No. Just, no. Call back on Monday. Biggest waste of time, if you’ve scheduled an appt with him, cancel now.

Doctor is very knowledgeable and caring. Staff efficient and pleasant.
