Dr. Daniel M Eichenbaum, MD

As my wife did years ago, I fired Dr. Eichenbaum's practice this morning. 1. It has the most unfriendly staff this 50-year-veteran medical writer has ever seen. (Me: "Hi! I'm Terry!" Receptionist, behind a big Covid screen: "You have to sign in!") 2. Famously long waits. (My record is 5 hours.) 3. Miraculously, today I was next -- and the exam rooms seemed empty! 4. Nevertheless, I waited 55 minutes until called (by my first name, of course). 5. Racing a writing deadline, I had planned to work via wifi. The password used to be TRUMP2024 (the doc wears his politics on his sleeve). But the wifi responded, "No internet." (Deadline missed.) 6. "The wifi? It's touch-and-go," the help said. No apology or empathy. 7. Asking my exam tech about her instruments, I was told, "I need you to stop talking." That was my last straw. 8. The appearance of the office is surely driving customers away: a narrow storefront with only 4 parking spots, dominated by a gaudily bedecked waterbed store… next door. 9. Still, 3 stars because a) the doc is highly credentialed and long experienced, and b) Laurie, the staffer who fits your frames, is a welcome exception: warm, yet thoroughly professional. (Thanks for not limiting me to 1000 characters, as Healthgrades did. A review is only as long as it feels, y'know.)

Had a 1:00 pm appt and at 5:00 still not seen by Dr. I left and will not go back, office staff rude. No social distancing in waiting area, staff did not wear mask. I will drive to Asheville before I go back to this office, no excuse for waiting that long. Need a new office manager

When you walk into his offices and see a sign telling you to be prepared to wait up to 3 1/2 hours and the waiting room is packed something is wrong. He might be good but he needs a better schedule. He isn’t worth that

Had 8:20 am appointment arrived around 8 am. they couldn't find our paper work And handed a clip board to re do. After doing so seated ourselves in the waiting room. after 1 hour and 40 minutes we asked why all these people were going ahead of us. The women at the front desk was be caused they had to re do our paperwork after they had lost the originals. I told her that was not proper asked for oh records and departed the office. The lady said before we departed that it was always a two to four hour wait which I know is not true as we have been going there for several years. She was snippy and could care less.....No problem many good Doctors in the the area. Just wanted to let everyone know about the women at the front desk.

I was in the Blue Ridge area for vacation and woke up with an eye infection 3 months after a corneal transplant. Dr. Eichenbaum was able to squeeze me in to his already packed schedule. I was worried that a small town doc may not be able to deal with my complicated eye issues. He was extremely knowledgeable and was able to remove infected stitches from my cornea (didn’t even know he was a surgeon!). Prescribed meds and was cleared up in 2 days, so I was able to enjoy the rest of my vacation. Yes, there is a long wait to see him, but he’s definitely worth the wait!

I called this office to make an appointment of pain in my eye. They said they would call me back... they did not. I called them again and the woman on the phone tried to diagnose me. I asked again for an appointment. She said a technician would call me. The next day a tech called me in the afternoon - he determined that I didn't have a problem and sent me back to the appt setter to make an eye check up appt for 6 MONTHS LATER! Do yourself a favor, for a real doctor, go elsewhere!

Dan and his staff are absolutely the best! Vision in my left eye has returned to 20/20 3 weeks after surgery and 20/30 in my right eye the day after surgery. Not just a Great Surgeon but a great person to boot!!!

I was mortified to hear from my 80 year old mother-in-law this morning that she was made to wait in this doctor's office for FIVE AND ONE-HALF HOURS yesterday. She had a 10AM appointment and finally gave up and went home at 3:30. She never did get in front of him. No, he wasn't called out for emergency surgery and, no, they didn't have a lunch buffet. What could a possible explanation for this to happen be?

Excellent. Took the time needed. Guess he's the best and that's why his waiting room is always packed and it's a bit of a wait for a regular appt. BUT I had an emergency and they took me in immediately when there was pain involved. Can't ask for more than that.
