Dr. Liesen has deep roots in Quincy – 1850s deep. His great-great-grandfather was a builder responsible for construction of Quincy University Chapel and the family home at 16th and Spring where Dr. Liesen and his 10 siblings grew up, among other structures throughout the community.
His connection to Blessing runs deep, too. Dr. Liesen’s mother was a beloved and long-time teacher at Blessing’s Early Learning Center, and he was a laboratory employee before going to medical school.
Dr. Liesen’s love of medicine reflects his personality. He is a problem solver. In addition, his father was a high school teacher of subjects including biology and microbiology.

Dr. Liesen’s interest in surgery began as a boy.
“I would take my bike apart and put it back together over and over again. I am very mechanically minded and always wanted to use my hands.”
Dr. Liesen spent 18 years of his career before returning to Quincy as a surgeon at a Level One trauma …center, where he gained extensive experience in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
When not in the operating room, you may find Dr. Liesen working in the garden, hunting, playing guitar, or computer programming. He’s also a student of languages, including ancient Greek and Spanish.
