Dr. David Martin Ratzman, MD

I agree with the several other posters who mentioned his lack of bedside manner. In addition he does make you feel like you are having addiction tendencies based on the comments he makes.

Although Dr. Ratzman may be a good doctor he definitely has no bedside manner. I have not experienced anything but office visits so I cannot speak to his skills with procedures to help with pain. His office staff is friendly but appointments are always running late. At more than one visit I waited over an hour. Since he spent a total of 10 minutes with me I think this is a case of overbooking and not because of taking your time with patients. He did not take time to explain what he thought was going on-just ordered an MRI and scheduled to see me again. At the next appointment still did not really explain what was going on. Not sure if this was because he didn't want to take the time or didn't think I was capable of understanding. I am sure he sees a lot of situations with his patients but I feel a doctor treating people with chronic pain needs to be more compassionate and understanding with his patients. I left feeling he thought my pain was not worth complaining about.

I have received care from Dr. Ratzman. First off I want to say his main nurse, Ashley, is AWESOME! The Billing contact and main scheduler is great too. I believe Dr. Ratzman is good at what he does but he has no "bedside manors". I have always felt that I was being questioned on how I really felt. Almost made to believe that what I was feeling wasn't what I should be feeling. You never know what kind of mood he will be in as well. Sometimes he shakes your hand and says "good to say you & how are you" then other times you feel as you are being interrogated. There is always a long wait (when appts are not in the morning). He seems to always be "running behind". Which is frustrating because I have to use my lunch hour, for my visits, and if I go over the one hour I don't get paid for the time I was not at work. Ugh! He has treated me with Pain Medication. I have NEVER felt so belittled & questioned, in my entire life! As a doctor, and what I have told him, he should know what kind… of pain I am in. He told me that I have an addiction problem, and that I need to get help! He never discussed other options (medications) that I could try/research. He went straight for the jugular on this one. My view point, I did exactly what was asked of. I never asked for early refills, made all my appts (appts that I had to rescheduled - I always called ahead of time) physical therapy, etc. Because of the pain medications he does require drug screening (totally understand and support). At one of my medicaton refills he asked that I come in to do a drug screen before he would refill. Not a problem! When I got to the office they charged me my CO-PAY! It wasn't even an office visit. I could go and on but I wont' because, I feel, the cons out weigh the pros for Dr. Ratzman. I encourage everyone to do their research before making an appt with Dr. Ratzman.

The office did not answer the phone so I had to leave (3) messages. They NEVER returned my call. They answered the 4th time I called. They had not received my referral. If I had waited for a return call my pain would have been so elevated and intolerable it would never be able to get under control. Poor office protocol.

Dr Ratzman has always paid attention to all my concerns. When given shots he is the best. I went to another Dr and he didn't even research or check me out. He just wanted to do surgery and send me to get a shot. Dr Ratzman explained everything so that I could understand. He has made my pain bearable.

He can give shots in the back joints that I can hardly feel. Great! The old pain management doctor I went to--well, let's just say it was the most painful of procedures to get these shots.

Dr Ratzman and staff are wonderful & so thoughtful! They made sure I had everything I needed before my appointment and had no wait time for paperwork!! Waited just a few minutes for the Dr with him apologizing for my wait! Dr Ratzman was very kind, knowledgeable and explained everything in detail. They worked me in for my injections same day at the Naab Rd office! Would def recommend him!!

Dr. Ratzman is a pain rock star! He worked with my primary physician to eradicate my pain with a precision shot plus pharmaceuticals. That was in Jan./Feb. 2001. Just now - Feb. 2018 - need to see him again. A lifesaver who helped me live and work as a teacher effectively. Teaching over 1000 students has been a major joy of my life. And he made that happen.

Dr. Ratzman and I have had an on going situation for several years. Due to bad arthritis and much pain from it-he has been the best of help. I cannot imagine going to anyone else.

Dr. Ratzman took me the next day and was able to do a nerve block for me which has taken away so much of my pain. I thought he was extremely professional and competent.
