Dr. Douglas Austin Chen, MD

I'm an acoustic neuroma patient, I had surgery a few years ago and have a metal plate in my head. I've seen Dr. Chen twice now and both times he was very dismissive of my concerns. I drive over an hour and a half round trip, wait over an hour in the waiting room and he spends barely 5 minutes with you. The last time I went I had serious concerns about the plate in my head, and he just said, get an MRI (which he told me could take weeks) then come back. He didn't examine my head, or take me seriously. When I asked what I was supposed to do about the pain for the next few weeks, he said try massage....I have seen several ENTs and specialists over the years due to my condition and I would NOT recommend Dr. Chen.

Didn't listen to me, didn't answer my questions, was more worried about rushing me out than helping me. I don't recommend

Dr. Chen fixed my left ear 12 years ago. Recently I went to another doctor because of insurance changes. In the end I went back to Dr.Chen realizing he has is very knowledgeable and has great experience with difficult cases such as myself without losing his sense of compassion for the patient.

Absolutely rude and ignorant Dr's and staff. Dr. Chen has absolutely no compassion for his patients if his life depended on it. I tried to explain my medical history to him and he asked me if I was trying to tell him how to do his job. He even went as far as to rip my medical chart up in front of my face and my mother's. He wouldn't even let me speak to give him a detailed explanation of my medical history. But yet acted as if he knew everything about me all in less than 20 minutes. If I could give him a 0 for a star rating into the negatives I would. I do not recommend going here at all. Go somewhere else you won't be discriminated against or treated like this. They do not even deserve the one star rating.

I have seen Dr. Chen for off balance and lightheadedness. He checked me out good, nothing serious. His waiting time in office is awful. I waited 1 hour before I saw him. Parking is expensive at Northside office not sure if its worth the trip there.

One of, if not, the best in his field.

I have been a patient of Dr. Chen's for 20+ years. I was referred to him after an ear doctor told me I had a brain tumor that was causing my ear problem. It took Dr. Chen a very short time after reviewing the hearing test to determine that I have Meniere's Disease. Ultimately, he performed a vestibular section which eliminated the disabling vertigo episodes that took me out of the workforce for two years. I LOVE Dr. Chen!! He is the best!!

Don't waste your time seeing this doctor. The waiting time to see him was almost an hour. Then when I did see him about my condition he exhibited no compassion and in fact he didn't seem to care at all. He just wanted to rush me through so he could get to the next patient. I think it's time to retire Dr. Chen!

Before the doctor saw me, a hearing test was administered. The person administering the test was very rough. When taking the devices out of my ears, she yanked them out and I could feel the suction suddenly pop. I have had a couple other hearing tests at other facilities, and they were always done with care, except at this practice. I told the physician's assistant; he chuckled. I waited almost a month for this appointment and I spent the most time with the physician's assistant. By the time the doctor came in he already had a diagnosis before even speaking to me. When I tried to engage him in conversation, he said I was stressing out. No doctor, I waited for a month for the appointment, had to wait an hour and fifteen minutes in the waiting room, my blood sugar was getting low because I was hungry, and all I wanted was to be heard by the doctor. I would not recommend.
