Dr. Emil Anthony Tanghetti, MD

Amazing bedside manner with thorough attention and observations. When I came to see Dr. Tanghetti I was desperate for assistance with a condition I have been suffering with for 10 years. Although he was not able to help me with my initial condition (laser treatment), he was able to explain why alternative methods may be a better choice and referred me to a specialist that may be able to assist me further. However, I was very impressed that he observed other skin conditions that I had not even made an appointment for and attend it to those conditions as well. I had saw Dr. Parsons a couple of days before and she was very rude and dismissive to my concerns which left me on a continuing quest for answers and help. It felt great that Dr Tanghetti understood and empathized with my concerns. I will definitely be back to see him for any further dermatological issues.

Absolutely horrible experience. Please please (for your own sake) if you are considering going to this dermatologist, read this review and the others citing his poor behavior. I'm a south Asian female in my 20s who went to Tanghetti's office for treatment of acne. This man has no bedside manner and clearly had an agenda he was trying to push. Namely he wanted me to start either spironolactone or birth control for my acne. When I said that I was not interested because of the side effects (which I listed) he acted as if I was stupid because I am taking another systemic medication so why would I oppose a second? He also asked "what does that have to do with birth control?" with extreme condescension. When I was able to answer his question about the role of estrogen in causing various side effects, he asked about my profession. Thankfully I have a background in health care (4th year pharmacy student), otherwise I may not have been able to defend myself from his line of questioning and… may have ended up taking a medication which was not suitable for me. Tanghetti also made me extremely uncomfortable with his line of questioning about my sexual history. His manner of asking basic questions that I have been asked by countless health care professionals in the past made me feel attacked and uneasy. I felt like he was trying to strip me of my dignity. He definitely put me on the defensive. He eventually relented and prescribed a topical medication but basically said it wouldn't work and I would eventually have to start one of the other medications. FYI a series of different dermatologists (from UCSF medical center) previously told me that those medications would not be ideal for me due to hair loss I am experiencing. Anyways, never did he stop to consider what lengths I will go to deal with my acne. For me, the treatment stops at topical medications. I would rather deal with my acne (which is not severe) than take something systemic. However, I never had the opportunity to express my treatment goals. I will absolutely not be returning to this office (though the MAs were very nice and he does have a PA who may be great for all I know). I'm still very upset and uncomfortable at his treatment hours later. I post this review partially to help deal with my own feelings and partially to help others avoid the same terrible experience.

I feel very well cared for and Dr. Tanghetti is very attentive, as well as the staff.

Dr Tanghetti has a great reputation and he is great at diagnosing and treatment. His reputation is not worth the price you pay. Staff is competent but not caring enough for me. I continue to go only becaues he knows my history and I don't have time to look for another dermatologist.

I have no doubt that Dr. Tanghetti is extremely competent, and his bedside manner is good. The serive I was pleased with Unfortunately, he is way too expensive. Expect to pay top dollar. I paid well over twice what I used to pay elsewhere (my last two dermatologists retired and this was my first visit to Dr. Tanghetti). I spent less than 1/2 hour in the office and paid more than $400.00. $160.00 was for a first-time office visit(a scan of the body) which took all of 3 minutes.

After a year of seeing this office nothing had cahnged my acne expt that my pocket book was empty..no thank you
