Dr. Eric Louis Smith, MD

Dr. Eric L. Smith of NE Baptist Hospital was my surgeon for my 2nd total knee replacement. It’s been a year since my successful surgery.. I am so grateful to him, his office staff and the Baptist Hospital team. My first knee replacement in 2019 at BI was the worst medical experience of my life. I rate my second knee replacement success on these factors: Dr. Smith is a skilled surgeon. We met, I explained my fears, he took a lot of time and talked about how my surgery would go. I opted for the Conformis Knee which is a custom knee molded to your leg. It made a HUGE difference in my successful recovery . It’s marketed towards athletes, but I notice a big difference when I compare my knees. Pain Management - The opioid epidemic has forced docs to cut way back on pain meds. I believe the pendulum has swung too far in the current direction. That said, I was not denied the refills I needed for successful physical therapy. Physical Therapy - I would not consider knee… replacement surgery unless you commit to P.T. My knees will never be like my young knees, but I do not have pain when doing stairs, walking the dog, etc. I highly recommend Dr. Eric Smith and the New England Baptist Hospital

I had bylateral knee replacement by this surgeon recently. I cant say enough good about him or his staff. Highly recommend

Excellent doctor

Dr. Smith was the most arrogant, rude, and uncompassionate doctor I have every had! He made my knee worse and left me with a gaping open wound in my knee for 3 months- he refused to help and was annoyed when I asked why this happened. He did a forced manipulation and the medical team numbed the wrong leg and he could have cared less when I was in pain. I would NEVER recommend him and in fact I would say any toher doctor would be better than he is!

Waited an hour and twenty minutes after my appointment time. He finally blew in obviously in a rush to get out of there. At one point he was actually looking at the wrong xray until corrected by his helper. He was a total downer. Told my brother who has a touch of CP that he is a surgeon only and he offers nothing for pain management. Joint replacement with CP is questionable and brother had a very complicated case. Most people with CP get to the point where they can't walk anyway. This man took any hope my brother had and totally crushed it. What kind of surgeon he is I cannot comment on but as a physician who I believe took an oath to do no harm, He IS A Total Failure. This man not only has no bedside manner, he has no concience and I sincerely hope his pompous attitude does no harm to anyone else. i

First off Dr Smith is a man. The spelling mistakes in his bio needs to be fixed. Second Dr Smith can work miracles so I could enjoy the rest of my life pain free. It’s be 6-1/2 years and I haven’t had any problems. Thank you Dr Smith, I’m so happy that I traveled from Maine to have you do my surgeries.

My appointment was at BMC. I signed in and was told to sit. I did. I waited for 1 1/2 hours before going back to the girl who signed me in to ask how much longer it would be. She directed me to the TV which had said 15 minutes wait for the last 1 1/2 hours. I told her that and she said she was busy and to sit down and wait. I did. A half hour later, I went to another person and asked why I had been waiting for so long, and could he find out how much longer it would be. He said that something was wrong because I shouldn’t have waited so long. He asked to me sit down while he went to check. 5 minutes later, a smiling nurse came out and called my name, and asked how I was doing. I told her to truth, that I was angry. She smiled and said they put my paper work in the out box by mistake! GRRRRRRR! After that things moved quickly. They knew I was angry about the 2 hour wait! Later appointments moved very quickly. No problems with them, but I felt that I had poor… communication from the doctor’s office. My knee developed complications and, though in rehab, and then visiting nurses, nothing was done about it until I ended up at the local hospital because the wound was still open and smelled! The rehab knew about the wound, but did nothing about it. With the visiting nurses, I kept reporting that I thought it smelled, but they disagreed. GRRRR. My local hospital took one look when I went I for PT and, sent me to the ER who called the doctor’s office. I was given antibiotics and was told to keep my six week appointment as scheduled. The complications contained and 6 months after the surgery, I was taken back in to close the wound. I also had been given conflicting meds and dosages at that 6 week check up, which my druggist picked up. They had prescribed meds a week before when I was in the ER. My second prescription meds were denied because he had already given them to me with different instructions and different dosages! It took a few calls to drugstore and doctor to clear up THAT mess! Overall, it was a poor experience.

Had right hip replacement a few years ago. Ended up with a significant leg length discrepancy. When I mentioned it to him, he became VERY defensive and denied it. I cannot recommend him. There's are a myriad of wonderful doctors in Boston. Don't use him.

Very satisfied with the results of my knee replacement surgery. Im still recovering but doing great. Excellent surgeon highly recommend.

I only had the opportunity to see Dr Smith once because I had to leave the state due to an emergency but I was going to have bilateral knee replacements with him and felt confident that he was extremely qualified and professional. At my appointment he was genuinely caring but did not waste time with me just straight to the point in a caring and capable manner which was appropriate given the circumstances. I highly recommend this doctor and look forward to returning to Massachusetts so I can get the care I need very soon.
