Dr. Francis X. Martingano, MD

I had an incredibly uncomfortable experience with Dr. M. When entering my visit, he seemed to dismiss my anxiety about having uncomfortable tests done, and the fact that I wanted to wait for my companion to come and hold my hand. When she did arrive, he told me I would have been fine if she was no there. I would not have been fine. When actually at the appointment, I was told it would actually be two tests that I would have done, one more invasive than what I had planned on. During the procedures, I asked several times how much long sensations were going to continue, and rather than give me an answer in a time frame, he said “you’re doing great sweetie”. It was incredibly uncomfortable, and gynecological visits already induce a lot of fear, and rather than say anything about what he was doing, and how it would feel, he instead told me “you know, some women don’t get anesthetic for this”. It was on of the hardest things not being able to get up and walk out of the appointment because… there were tools inside me. After telling me more than a dozen times to relax, even though I felt like I was going to pass out, was overheating and sweating, it was finally over. I told him that I wanted to talk to him about how the appointment went. With my companion still in the room, I proceeded to tell him how uncomfortable I am, and how dismissive he was of my previously stated anxieties around this specific field of medicine. He told me that I should have been more aware of how much anxiety I had—I had never had this experience to know how my body would react. He at one point cut off what I was saying and told me that this was “upsetting” and he was on the verge of tears. He decided to tell me that he was very sick as a child, and that he became a doctor “to be a savior”. Those were his exact words. I realized that my words were not at all making an impact, and didn’t say anything else, and immediately decided to switch doctors. I hope no one else has such an experience with him. I had never experienced this level of dismissiveness from a medical professional before.

I was recommended to this Dr. by another Dr. that I trusted and I told him I was afraid and it was very hard for me to trust anyone. He understand my fear and talk to me not only as a Dr. but also a friend. I had my surgery done by Dr. Martaingano. I had a Hysterectomy . Everyone from his staff to the other nurses and Dr. on that day was great to me. And I have never stop telling others women who have the kind of problems I had, how great he is

From the moment I walked into the office, I was immediately greeted by the welcoming staff, and the overall office environment was clean and comforting. Just when I thought things couldn't get any better, I had the privilege of meeting Dr. M. He has the most amazing bedside manner, and spent a great deal of time talking to me and making a strong and supportive effort to conceptualize and diagnose an issue that has plagued me for the last 8 months. The support I received from him coupled with his intelligence and knowledge simply blew me away. He does not only like to treat any issue you may have, he strives to correct the underlying cause. If I had to summarize my overall experience with the doctor and the office as a whole, I would say it was as helpful and wonderful as any check-up could ever possibly be. Thank you so much for being the caring professional that you are! We need more physicians like you in this world!

I was forced to switch ob/gym after 15 yrs. I found dr Martingano on zoc doc and chose his since he had good reviews and he was in the city. Following my experience I am convinced those favorable reviews are bogus. First off I waited over an hr for an appointment and was told it would be another 15 minutes. Being that I was on my lunch hour I rescheduled and this time I called before I left my office. The dr seemed nice attentive and knowledgeable. During the examination he found a polyp and took a sample to be tested for cancer . He said worst case I would need a hysterectomy and best case I would need a d&c to remove it since there is a risk it can turn into something . A few days later his assistant called to schedule the d&c and told me that he can do Saturday in his office in manhattan or Friday in Staten Island . Being a sabbath observer I could not do Saturday and I have no way to get to Staten Island . She told me she would speak to the dr and call me back . She never did . I… called back a few days later and was told she was out for the week and was the ONLY person who could schedule the procedure . In the meanwhile I called several times to get my test results. No one called me back . I finally got a nurse on the phone who told me if the dr hasn't called you your tests came back fine . The dr had told me he would calls regardless . So I called a week later to schedule the d&c and Maureen was still out for another week and still have not received a return phone call. Today almost a month since my exam I called again to schedule the procedure. I was told that the dr would have to call me and the procedure suddenly needed to be done in the hospital. Mind you I STILL do not have my test results do now I'm in a panic. I left a final message that I wanted to pick up my medical records ... No one has called me back. My next call is going to be to the American Medical Association

Dr. Martingano delivered two of my children, and it was an exceptional experience. He is kind, prompt and sees to the needs of his patients with diligence and care.
