Dr. Garth David Phibbs, MD

I was told by my gynocologist that she could not help me anymore. I felt as though cancer was winning, I had already had a double mastectomy for breast cancer and part of uterus removed because of uterus, now I had Vulva cancer and spots would appear within days of having others removed. My gynocologist told me that she knew a doctor that could help me. They made me appointment with Dr Garth Phibbs. Here I am 12 yrs later cancer free. Dr Phibbs has been a life saver. He had to do a total hysterectomy on me cause I had a high risk of ovarian cancer. He is very professional, he listens to me and gives me a hug(first and only doctor that has ever done that) at the end of all my visits. I'm really blessed to have him as my doctor, but I'm worried about what kind of doctor I will get when he retires. TD

I'd run, not walk, to another doctor. When ppl say Dr. Phibbs has no bedside manner, they aren't kidding and it is a big deal. My gynecologist sent me to Dr. Phibbs after they found cancer in the labs after my hysterectomy. During my appointment he came in, told me his name, and then immediately came at me and started a breast exam. That was shocking, but the worst was yet to come. During the pelvic portion of the exam he squirted gel directly onto my labia and then used his hand to swipe my labia from front to back, and then did the pelvic exam. WTH!?! I have never been touched like that in a gynecological exam, EVER! I left shocked, and seriously traumatized. I had nightmares for weeks. Seriously, I do not get all of the good reviews of this man. Either he specifically treated me differently or ppl are putting up with being touched inappropriately. Listen women, being touched like that is not normal, it's unnecessary, and you don't have to put up with that!!! Find another doctor!!!… One that will treat you with respect and as a human being. I see an oncologist at the Cleveland Clinic now where they treat me as a person and not some animal or toy.

Been seening Dr Phibbs for 3 years. He a great doctor. Would recommend him to anyone in need of this type of doctor.

I first saw Dr. Phibbs in spring of 1989. I was 42 years old, dx pap test 5. my general MD said I needed a specialist. Dr. Phibbs gave me a hug my first visit and he was like a brother caring about me. I am now 71 years old and going great ! I see him every year and we have grayed together :) He made me feel I could trust him and I did. Love him dearly for choosing the path he chose for a career. God bless you Dr. Phibbs !

From my first visit several years ago till my checkups twice a year, I have found that Dr. Phibbs is a doctor who listens, who cares, and, above all, who is skilled.

As far as I am concerned, Dr Phibbs saved my life. I am thankful for his skill and desire to help women at a scary time--being diagnosed with cancer. H e is a busy man because he is an excellent physician.

I'm sorry but his bedside manner was terrible. I have NEVER had an exam where I left bleeding. Would not listen when I said he was hurting me.

At any given time one can have a good experience were someone else has a bad. That's usually personal. But when it comes to trying to tell someone like myself, who is educated, seeing only specialist my entire life(mother made sure we ONLY saw specialist. Therefore learning from a young age each Dr. has their specialty) Now I'm told I NO longer need to have regular exams done because I'm 66 1/2, is no longer just a personal problem. It's now a medical issue. Not allowing me my opinion on this, but just doing the exam as quickly as possible and trying to leave with out explaining to me! I however didn't let this happen. I made him stop to explain himself and why I no longer was getting a breast exam, having him palpitate my ovaries during uterine exam & NO pap smear. The biggest gulp of Kool Aid he tried to have me take in as the gospel, the breast exam. Said because I had my mammogram 6 month earlier, he didn't need to check my breast!?! In return I asked (as if I was ignorant) so… does this mean I no longer need to do breast exams on myself!?! Because of having a mammogram 6 months ago. That breast exams shouldn't be done monthly!?! "Oh yes, I should do my breast exams monthly!" Reply - "Then why aren't you doing this one!?!" No adequate answer given. Just another attempt to walk out. Once again stopping him(felt I had the right since I'd waited 1 HOUR & 15 MINUTES for a 10 min exam) Told him I was having SEVER nipple pain when cold. I had examined myself to make sure no discharge. He said he never heard of this!?!! A Oncologist OB NEVER hearing a women saying this!?! Knowing of this!?!! Came home, looked it up on google and with in seconds knew all about this syndrome. Or rather, Raynaud's Phenomena! This is a person interested in the money. And now I'm suspicious he's not really found of women(and one would think he'd be even more of an advocate for women since his daughter died right before going into practice with him from a uterine cancer. Not sure which one) What do you call a Dr. who graduates top of his class as opposed to one who graduates at the bottom. They are BOTH called DR.!! Do NOT ever get White Coat syndrome, remember, they are just people with a different degree then you. BE YOUR OWN BEST FRIEND, BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE!!! If NOT satisfied with office/Dr. LEAVE!

My exam and surgery was over 20 years ago. I found he and his staff disrespectful. My colposcopy was harsh and one of the roughest pelvic exams I had ever experienced. His demeanor was rude and disrespectful to me as well as to my husband, who is also a physician. Yes he removed my cancer via total radical hysterectomy but he also severed the nerves to my bowel and bladder and 28 years later I am still dealing with that and will for the rest of my life. I have seen several urologists who upon hearing of my surgery told me that the severed nerves didn't have to happen. I was treated rudely after surgery and his office staff outright lied to me. If you have any other choice I would recommend taking it. Had I known what this man was really like I certainly would have gone elsewhere, even if I had to pay for it myself. I can't believe he is still allowed to practice. I actually did fire him after my first follow up visit as I heard him say some very unkind things about me outside the exam… room door. I felt he was not conducive to my recovery.

Dr. Phibbs really deserves about a 10 on this scale. He's on the quiet side, so some things aren't readily obvious, but this is the person I want treating me. Just super.
