Dr. Gary John Schiller, MD

He does not listen to me when I see him and he is always rushing. I fear that I’m going to die if I can’t get an oncologist who actually cares and I’m not a paycheck. Karolina the nurse is always in a hurry and spends no longer than 5mins with me. One time I waited over 4 hours and then was told she had left for the day, I was horrified and upset. I have cancer, I am dying, I cannot believe this is UCLA and this is your best?

Dr Schiller is arrogant, rude, short, and does not listen to me when I see him. He has a nurse practitioner named Karolina and she is always in a hurry and she is as bad as he is, but not arrogant. Neither of them ever have time to see me, they come in, ignore me and leave. I also am not happy with the medical secretaries they are horrible and never got my first chemotherapy appointment scheduled and I was delayed for two weeks! I'm sorry UCLA but this is my life, not another dollar sign for dr schiller and his nurse. The office manager named Beth is not very smart and make excuses for the secretary not doing their job.

Dr Schiller leads the field in AA-MDS and related diseases. I was diagnosed with PNH about 12 years ago, and after seeing two other physicians, Dr Schiller nailed it. He is very honest and trustworthy, but will not sugarcoat things. Dr Schiller always took the time to answer our medical questions without fail. Over time, he opened up about his family, traveling, hobbies, and was always interested in my pursuits and personal well-being. There was a time when things looked pretty grim, but I'm healthy and stable at this point, thanks in part to Dr Schiller, my wife, and my God and savior Jesus Christ who has provided the power, love and sound mind to get through this stage of life. He is an egomaniac and inhuman. I saw him and he told me he had a leukemia patient just die. I am very ill with leukemia, why would he tell me that?! Then he went on to tell me he had told the patient he was going to die and also told his family so why were they upset?. He then said the family sued him after their son died and the reason the family sued. Who tells another patient that sort of confidential information especially when I too have an aggressive leukemia. Something is very wrong with this man and UCLA has a huge liability keeping this man on. Sorry no doctor is God, clearly Schiller thinks he is.

I very much regret ever meeting or being treated by this physician. He seems to be more focused on conducting clinical trials than on healing patients. I am so glad that I quickly ended any connection to him.

Dr. Schiller does not have a supportive bedside manner. He does not explain what he is doing or why he is doing it and does not want his patients to question him. He becomes defensive and curt when you ask too many questions.

My father and our family saw this physician one time when my Dad was diagnosed with leukemia. His bedside manner was horrible. Our family was appalled by his rude demeanor. He was even rude to his resident as well barking at him. He lacked compassion and sensitivity. He came across very arrogant. Dr. Schiller said to my dad (without ever meeting him before) â??Well you are going to dieâ??. Actually no one describe the dire news to us. So it was hard to hear. He only seemed excited when my dad was willing to participate in a clinical trial. My dad did die approximately 6 months after that visit. I will never forget nor will my family the horrible feeling we felt when had that office visit with Dr. Schiller.

There are no words of praise or gratitude that can come close to how we feel about Dr. Schiller. Our favorite saying was if Dr. Schiller can't do it...no one can. His knowledge is unsurpassed and he exude that confidence to his patients. He leaves no stone unturned even if it is a stretch. He really is a Dr. that cares. He was always there night or day to return a message or call. We traveled far to see him but the trip was always worth it. So very thankful for all you do Dr. Schiller and your wonderful staff.

My brother was under this doctor's care. I can't post ONE positive word about him. My brother has acute leukemia, was treated with a bone marrow transplant that was successful. Dr Schiller releases him to outside the hospital.. Who sends someone basically out to the wolves with no immune system???? Unfortunately he ended up with infections that he could not fight off. I would like to extend our thanks to the doctor that happened to be there when I went to visit my brother who had enough brains to get him in ICU. It helped him tremendously, but sadly my brother passed away. I am still floored at the lack of care this doctor gave my brother. I was there for 4 days and never once saw him. Please do extensive research for the ones you love, and choose another doctor.
