Dr. Gary F Tansino, MD

Dr. Gary F. Tansino is a medical oncologist and hematologist at MOH’s MidState Medical Center facility, where he developed MidState’s comprehensive cancer program. Wanting to have a positive impact on his fellow human beings, Dr. Tansino decided to specialize in cancer and blood disorders. "I wanted to treat patients who really needed help," he says. "The field is very young, and there is plenty of room for improvement in treatment."

Because he takes great satisfaction in helping patients navigate through life changing illnesses, Dr. Tansino appreciates MOH’s focus on close doctor-patient relationships. "MOH doctors spend a lot of time with their patients," he says, "more than at most cancer treatment facilities."

Dr. Tansino is excited by recent advances in targeted therapies, such as Gleevec and Rituxan. He believes the near future holds great promise for gene profiling and customized treatment programs, allowing for more effective care with fewer side effects.

Though …skilled in treating all forms of cancer and blood disorders, Dr. Tansino is particularly interested in breast, lung, colorectal, prostate, and bladder cancers.

Born on Long Island and raised in Burlington, Massachusetts, Dr. Tansino, his wife, and his three children are now proud to call Wallingford, Connecticut, home. In his free time, Dr. Tansino enjoys golfing, fishing, and gardening. He loves to spend time on the ocean at Cape Cod, and heads out whenever he can for some offshore tuna fishing.
