Dr. Gebrehana W Zebro, MD

Dr. Zebro was a life saver for me. He diagnosed my bipolar 2 disorder quickly and had me on proper treatment quickly as well. I went from being a miserable and depressed human being to my happy usual self. He was always patient and kind. He listened to my problems, my crying, and helped me back up in my low moments. A lot of the disgruntled patients I ever saw were because he wouldn't give them the medication they wanted. I saw a woman cuss him and scream and create a scene in his office talking about suing him because he wouldn't prescribe the medication she wanted and was going to bill her insurance for the visit. She was loud enough with her ranting for me, in the lobby, to hear her wanting some hard core drugs and pain pills. I saw him immediately after she left and he was the same kind and caring psychiatrist he always was with me. I would recommend him to anyone. Unfortunately, others can no longer have the pleasure of his care like I did because he's closing his practice.

The staff is not very courteous, kept my daughter waiting for 45 minutes after appointed time, will charge you co pay if you don't make it there, the average time spent at each appointment is about 7 minutes.....I am curious as to if he bills our insurance company for an hour

I came to him with treatment-resistant depression as I had been suffering from depressive symptoms for almost 8 years with one brief hypomanic-type episode which had been attributed to a medication-induced mania by my psychiatrist at the time, which happened 7 years prior. I was really excited and looking forward to trying TMS therapy with him as medications had generally failed me. He promised that we'd do the TMS as soon as I changed my insurance as my insurance provider didn't cover the service and it is a costly service. So I changed my insurance about 7 months later, when I was finally able to, during open season, and then he said we wouldn't be able to do the TMS because of the fact that his diagnosis was bipolar disorder and the insurance company wouldn't cover TMS for bipolar as it's indicated for Major Depressive Disorder (my original diagnosis with my initial psychiatrist of 4 years). He said the only way we could do it was if I paid out of pocket, which could cost… upwards of $15,000! I guess he was more interested in making money over treating my condition. I was highly disappointed as I had been looking forward to this treatment for seven months and he had given me false hope. I still don't understand why he did this. He made my insurance the problem initially, and then when I got that rectified, my disorder became the problem. I decided not to go back to him and have since been able to receive the treatment (covered by my insurance 100%) from a main provider of TMS treatments (TMS NeuroHealth Centers) giving them the same exact medical history as I had given him, including the "hypomanic" episode. I broke down in tears in his office as he had highly disappointed me and will NEVER return. In fact, I always left his office feeling more depressed and defeated. He didn't work for me.

Doesn't listen to you... Doesn't seem to care.

Saw him 3 times for depression he prescribe me medicine. It's started to give me migraines my body did not like it. I gave the medicine 2 months to make sure I gave it a chance but it didn't help. Saw the doctor today and told him what was going on and wanted to try a different medication he told me NO. He argued with me when I was telling him it wasn't helping. Spent 5 minutes in his office didn't care how I was doing. Will definitely not go back

I don't know what these other people experienced but i am a health care professional and am also Bi-polar. When my insurance company refused my cost for seroquel, my other dr put me on resp. I freaked out on that medicine, completely in a stupor of just sitting there staring at the walls. My mom found Dr Zebro in his Alexandria office and he immediately saw me. He spent at least a half hour with me at each visit. He also informed me that i could apply for free seroquel and even filled out the paperwork and sent it for me. He gave me samples for one month until my free med arrived. He also added Lamictal and started at a small dose an increased it each week., I saw him evey week, and by the third month i was back to myself, and my bipolar was controlled. He also informed me of the risks and benefits of my meds, and really helped me alot. His office staff in Alexandria were nothing but absolutely professional and never had a problem with them. In short, Dr G saved my life, and saved me… from checking myself into a hospital or suicide. There are always people who are going to be unhappy and write terrible things about MD's, but this one really helped me.

Dr. Zebro wrote a script for my son's medicine for the wrong dosage. The medicine he gave my son doesn't go as high as he wrote it, yet, he won't call the pharmacy and fix his error. Now, I have to go to another doctor to get a new script so my son, WHO IS OUT OF MEDICINE NOW BECAUSE OF DR. ZEBRO, can have his medicine. If you go to Psychology Today, Dr. Zebro states he's "I am a Board certified psychiatrist." If you go to the Virginia Board of Medicine, it lists him as "self designated" in psychology, not certified. The Virginia Department of Health Professionals indicates he is "self proclaimed" in psychiatry. Self proclaimed is defined as "The practice area in which the licensee declares a special interest...." So what exactly is he??? Certified or merely self proclaimed?

This doctor has the worse staff EVER!!! They are rude, disrespectful, and could care less if you have an emergency or unusual situation. They won't help you. And God forbid the doctor writes the script and it's not legible to the pharmacy, he won't call them to fix it - even if the script has been mailed across the country to a mail-in pharmacy for your insurance - and he could care less if youâ??re out of medsâ?¦got to pay to come back and see him to fix the problem. I was at the doctorâ??s office2 weeks before to get the script, and my insurance won't pay for another visit that soon and why should I - HE WROTE IT ILLEGIBLE!!! And the so-called Office Manager, Desireâ?¦ hahaha she's the biggest joke of them all!!!!! With her lack of manners complete disregard for the patients, she should be working in the stock room at Walmart and not at a doctorâ??s office. Then there's the receptionist, Kelly. I donâ??t know what to say about her other than WOW she acts like you're… bothering her when you call. When you say "thank you" at the end of a conversation she doesn't say "you're welcome" she just hangs the phone up on you. Even with Saturday hours, I would rather take off work than EVER go to the place again. Don't go to this doctor. Go someplace that will care about you and your situation. A doctor that when he mess es something up will fix it, without causing more undue burden on you.

At first I was happy with the ease of being able to get in and also loved the fact that they had Saturday appts. But after a few phone calls and appointments I realized that if you don't take your medication exactly as the doctor tells you or if you think the medication isn't working he assumes you aren't taking it or you don't want to get better. for example "long story short" I was sent to the ED for dehydration after an increase in medication "may or may not have caused vomiting and diarrhea" that led to dehydration. To test whether this was the medication I stopped the medications and for the whole day I was fine. Upon continuing the medications as prescribed I proceeded to have the same symptoms once again an hour and a half after taking them. I left this message with the nurse on Tuesday. didn't hear anything back until Thursday after I called to see what was going on. There was a snow day on Wednesday so my chart had not been looked at. they called me back 2 hours later to say… "if you want to be normal" you will take your medication. And if I throw up again? Then you don't have to take the medication the doctor is leaving that up to you.
