I first consulted Dr. Bales several years ago. I had developed a cyctocele (dropped bladder) and was using a pessary. The pessary was functioning fairly well, and I was there just to inquire about surgical cystocele repair if indicated. Dr. Bales examined me and said since my pessary was working well, I should wait for surgery. He said I might need surgery in the future but not yet. I very much appreciated that he did not pressure me for a surgical route. I prefer a conservative approach when possible. Eventually I started having problems with the pessary—urinary tract infections, bladder coming down more, pain with pessary in or out, decreased ability to walk around without pain. Dr. Bales found that the bladder hernia had increased. He discussed possible treatment with physical therapy which I did not want. He then thoroughly discussed the possible procedures for a cystocele repair including all risks involved. I opted for the vaginal route which is simpler and… has less recovery post op. Dr. Bales performed the procedure as an outpatient. I was amazed to have no significant pain after the procedure. I am now several months post op. I no longer have problems with the cyctocele. I realize that my muscles that support the bladder are not strong so I am very careful with lifting to prevent reoccurrence as much as possible. At this point, I feel great, and I am so happy with the surgical result. My quality of life has improved incredibly allowing me to walk and be active without pain. I am 70 years old, and I did not expect to be made young again. Yet I feel much younger without the discomfort I had been experiencing. I am completely satisfied with the surgical result. When and if I need more professional treatment by Dr. Bales, I will not hesitate to schedule another visit.

On my post-surgical appointment, he didn't even talk to me. He hid in a corner of the (large) room while his then female assistant told me one lie after another. That was the most insulting thing I've ever seen from a so-called physician. Hopefully he has more respect for his patients these days.

It has been 2 weeks since my surgery and am pleased with my recovery. I have been happy with how Dr. Bales has handled my situation and have already recommend him to others.
