Dr. Gregory Mundis, MD

I’m 65 years old and suffered a severe back injury after being thrown from my tank. This injury led to almost 35 back surgeries, including three fusions. The last fusion failed, causing my back to fuse to the left side, requiring a 7/8” lift in my left shoe to level me out. Dr. Mundis promised to straighten my spine, reduce my pain, and restore my ability to walk without pain. This surgery was challenging, but it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I’ve just completed my fourth month, and my pain level has significantly improved, dropping from a 9 to a 3. I expect to be pain-free soon and will likely stop taking pain medication. Dr. Mundis employed the most advanced techniques available to fuse my spine from my pelvis to T3. He kept his promise to straighten my spine, and he did so successfully. Dr. Mundis genuinely cares about his patients, prioritizing their pain relief and enabling them to live their daily lives without pain. In my opinion, Dr. Mundis’s technical expertise is… unmatched by any other surgeon I’ve encountered. My surgeries took me from Pennsylvania to Phoenix, then to La Jolla, San Diego. I wish I had known about him sooner, but I’m grateful to have finally found him. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Mundis for truly giving me my life back. He has allowed me to walk and hike for miles without pain, free from the constant reliance on pain medication. I want to express my deepest gratitude to Dr. Mundis for everything he has done for me.

I went into surgery confident that Dr. Mundis would give me the best possible care, using skill and monitoring to correct my spinal problems. I thought he would do every aspect of the surgery as perfectly as possible. Considering my outcome so far, almost 3 months after the surgery, I believe he did. Dr. Mundis is kind and approachable, listens well, informs clearly, and takes the time to answer your questions.

Dr Mundis is the only Spine Dr you should be considering. We went to several others Prior to our surgeries. The others don’t even come close. My wife had sudden onset scoliosis that developed over one yrs time. She was bent over looking at the ground. He performed a complete fusion from neck to tailbone. She now is standing straight up With no pain. I had a fusion 5/24 3/4 of my back. I had 4 prior back fusions in the 90s. All failed. So it was time to do it again. Still recovering, but do expect to have a perfect Back with little to no pain. I’ve heard dozens of times of failed back surgeries by other hack job Drs. He did a fabulous job. He is a great Dr. but more than that, he is a human. He’s not some arrogant Dr. that thinks his S—- don’t stink. He has a great personality, funny but yet serious, and always listen's. From the moment I met Dr. Mundis, I felt at ease with my condition. He has the gift of displaying concern with understanding and expertise. He monitored my spine condition for ten years before we decided it was the right time to have surgery. I am so relieved to have my life back. I’m four months post op and I can stand and walk with much less pain. I have more healing to do but I have so much hope for the future. A herniated cervical disk pressing on my spinal cord was causing numbness and fatigue in my legs. I didn't have pain in the usual sense but hadn't been able to feel my feet for several years. Dr. Mundis explained the importance of stopping the progression of this slowly worsening condition before it was too late. He made no promises about outcomes other than assuring me the ACDF procedure was safe. When I awoke after the operation I had no pain and could feel my feet for the first time in recent memory! Now I'm taking walks again without crutches, working on strengthening my legs. Dr. Mundis' knowledge and skill are augmented by his dynamic and bolstering personality. He's the best!

Dr. Mundis and his staff have been amazing through out my time at scripps. I recently broke my back snowboarding and was in a world of pain. He made me feel very comfortable and made me know I was in good hands. The surgery went great and the staff was very good with following up with me to make sure my recovery was going good. Last year I had 3 surgeries for herniated disks. I was very fortunate to be under the care of Dr. Greg Mundis. He did an amazing job with the surgeries. I am fully recovered and back to normal. He is exceptionally gifted at his craft, plus very caring, personable, always looking out for my comfort and followed up throughout my recovery.
