Dr. Greig Mcavoy

I have seen Dr. McAvoy for 2 issues. Both went the same way. The first was for my shoulders / extreme pain I was in due to them. He walks in and says he can not help me with my back. I said I was not there for my back! He said "OH. We can take x-rays." After taking X-rays of my right shoulder he tells me that it has to be completely remade BUT he can not do it. I need to see a "specialist." I said I thought you were a specialist. He made some lame excuse and that was it. The second time, I went due to new pain in my upper back, between my shoulder blades. They took x-rays. While taking x-rays, I asked if they were doing my upper back or my neck. They claimed they were doing my upper back. Dr. McAvoy walks in the room and says "there is nothing wrong with your neck." I said no sh__! I'm not here for my neck. (I am a cash paying customer) I am here for extreme pains between my shoulder blades. Dr. McAvoy says well, I guess we can take x-rays. I said you are a joke!

Dr. McAvoy has been my doctor for 2 knee replacements and also doctor for my daughter when she broke her arm. I have every confidence in Dr. McAvoy

He is very rude and he don't care about how you are feeling. He was only in the room for 5 mins, just to tell me, I will be feeling better within the next couple of days. Went to another orthopedic doctor and they gave me pain medicine and started me with physical therapy. DO NOT GO TO HIM!

My visit to Dr McAvoy's office was my worst experience with a Dr. I went to his office in severe pain. Dr McAvoy insulted me and practically called me a liar. I told him about a rash on my leg and he wouldn't look at it. The Dr said the best thing was for me to go to work. He walked out of the examine room while I was trying to ask questions. Two days later I was diagnosed with the shingles.

Misplaced my hip replacement appliance and would not acknowledge that there was anything wrong, even though I could not bend over without causing my hip to subluxate. . I had to go to an ortho at Duke to get a hip revision less than one year after the surgery Dr McAvoy did.

My son broke a bone, so we went to the hospital. The doctor there however count not get the bone to set back in place, so we where refereed to Dr. McAvoy. I called to schedule a apointment with his office. His staff anewered and I was informed by whoever answered the phone that I did not actually have to make an appointment that the ER doctors tell everyone that and she would not let me make an appointment. While I talked to her she was very rude. I told the Er doctor this, then he had to call to get this straight, after a hour of trying to schedule the appointment we finally got one the next day. We went to the apt and was told there was no apt made, so we had to sit and wait almost two hours to be seen. Bottom line Dr. McAvoy was awesome, however I will never return there due to their very rude staff. I literally got fused out and eyes where rolled at me. I'm not sure how they still have their jobs.

The office had me sign a paper that I would pay if my insurance did not cover the visit. They said this was because the web site was down that verified insurance so they could not verify my insurance up front. Then I found out that this office does not accept my insurance! They knew they did not accept my insurance, but didn't tell me! They only had me sign that paper so they could force me to pay the bill. I would have gone to another doctor who took my insurance if they had been honest with me. Now I have a large bill that I'm having difficulty paying and they don't seem to care. All they say is that I have to pay because I signed that paper. They don't seem to care that I signed it under fraudulent circumstances! I also had to wait a long time at every visit. I would not go back and I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. How can you trust them when they lie to you?!

When it came time to have a total Knee replacement Dr McAvoy took his time with me. Answered questions and conderns that I had. My family loved his bedside mannar cause he always had a smile on his face when he came in. He was up front and honest with me about everything. When we did the first follow up that is the first Dr who has ever padded me on the back and said good job keep up the good work. And answered even more questions that I had. He a great Dr.

Please do not go to this dr for workman's comp issues. He put down I has full range of motion in my arm when I could only raise it shoulder height. He told me I only had bursitis. He would not listen to me and I finally got to see another dr in Greenville who did surgery on my shoulder for a torn rotator cuff. I know of two other people he has done surgery on that had problems. But I do hear he is great with knees.

Not very prompt with appointment time, appeared as though they had triple or quadruple booked people for the same appointment time! Very poor bedside manner, spent minimal time talking with me and would not allow me to fully explain my situation and acknowledged he's a surgeon and doesn't spend much time dealing with sprained ankles!
