Dr. Hani Malone, MD

Hani Malone, MD, is a neurosurgeon with fellowship training in minimally invasive spine surgery. He specializes in the treatment of complex disorders involving the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine using minimally invasive techniques. He also practices general neurosurgery and has extensive experience treating patients with conditions that affect the brain. Dr. Malone's areas of expertise include spinal stenosis, disc herniation, radiculopathy, spondylolisthesis, artificial disc placement, cervical myelopathy, spinal deformity, spine trauma, revision surgery, spinal metastasis and spinal tumors. A minimally invasive approach applies not only to the techniques Dr. Malone uses to perform surgery, but also to his belief that surgery should be avoided when possible. Dr. Malone works closely with physical therapists, pain management doctors and rehabilitation specialists to get his patients back to doing the things they love. He has published more than 25 peer reviewed papers in neurosurgery and spine surgery literature. He has also written book chapters in more than 10 textbooks and routinely presents at national neurosurgery and spine surgery meetings. He is active in graduate medical education and participates in the training of new spine surgeons. Dr. Malone received his undergraduate degree from Harvard and graduated with honors in 2004. Outside of the operating room, Dr. Malone enjoys relaxing with his wife Melanie (who is also a surgeon), raising their children and spending time with his extended family who all live in the San Diego area.
